A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has urged supporters of the NPP in the Ashanti region to vote out executives looking for positions in the ongoing delegates’ conference.

Speaking about the ongoing delegates’ conference, Kofi Jumah described the eight-year term reign of the party’s leadership in the region as a total failure.

The former Asokwa Member of Parliament (MP) pointed out the incumbent Regional Chairman, Benard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and described his term in office as a total failure as well.

According to Mr. Jumah only two old executives, however, can be maintained, urging the delegates to vote for them and vote the rest out.

“I can tell you that all those seeking reelection must be voted out with the exception of the regional Organiser in the person of Francis Adomako and the Women’s Organizer. Apart from these two people, all of the regional executives have failed the party including Wontumi.”

Mr Jumah further ranked the aspirants for the chairmanship position and rated Wontumi as the worst among the five.

“Among all the five aspirants for the apex position, that’s the chairman race, Wontumi has the less political experience. So, I will rate him just one and I will rate his close contender Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, with three over three because he has the academic qualifications to critically analyze data and make informed decisions and projections.”

Mr Kofi further chastised the current chairman with what he described him as “unnecessarily living flamboyant lifestyle” which gives a bad impression about the government and thus making the party unpopular. “So, it will be very difficult for the NPP to break the eight if chairman Wontumi is re-elected.”

Mr. Jumah’s comments came ahead of the NPP regional elections which comes off today, Saturday, May 28 ,2022 after it was postponed from Friday, May 27, 2022.

5 maintain seats, two lose

Meanwhile, five incumbent regional chairpersons of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) retained their seats as against two who lost when the party held regional elections in seven regions on Friday, May 27, 2022.

According to reports, the elections were generally peaceful in the first seven regions which kicked off the three-day exercise. The elections were held in Ahafo, Bono East, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Western North regions. The Chairman for Bono East and Western North regions failed to retain their seats.

However, the Northern Regional Police Command arrested six persons in connection with the ongoing regional executive elections at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

According to the Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, the suspects looked suspicious and appeared to be people plotting to create mayhem at the venue. All the six persons were spotted in hidden rooms placing phone calls, while the conference was in progress. The six have since been sent to the Police station for interrogation and investigation.
