Finance Analyst, Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey has urged Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to resign from his position as Vice President of the country.

Dr Kofi Dogbey claimed that in a progressive democracy, the right recourse for Dr Bawumia to take is to resign from his position as the Vice President of Ghana if his ideologies differ from that of the President.

“I do appreciate the effort that the Vice President has put into, trying to digitalize the economy. He spoke more of digitization in his address but I don’t know if that resonated with the citizens because it doesn’t seem as if that is a pressing need of the average Ghanaian”.

Accordingly, the Finance Analyst indicated that the Vice President has failed in the many promises he made to Ghanaians before the 2016 General Elections.

Dr Wisdom Kofi Dogbey asserted that Ghanaians had hope for the Akufo–Addo–Bawumia administration when they were elected for their first term which began in 2017. He maintained that the current administration has not delivered on its numerous campaign promises.

He argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign promises such as transforming Ghana’s economy from Taxation to Production and ensuring the appreciation of the Ghana Cedi against the United States dollar have not materialized in the Vice President’s two terms in office dating from 2017 to 2024.

The Financial Analyst consequently stated that the Vice President’s achievements in his effort with digitalization do not fetch him much credibility with Ghanaians. He stressed that the general public has yet to experience any real impact of the said digitalization drive.

Dr Kofi Dogbey further argued that the Vice President failed to address issues that are of major concern to Ghanaians in his address during the launch of his presidential bid at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA). He mentions that Youth Unemployment and Healthcare are two issues that the ordinary Ghanaian values most.

Dr. Kofi Dogbey subsequently asserted that the Vice President’s speech at UPSA, in its entirety is an indictment of the incumbent government. He argued that Dr. Bawumia by his speech, wasted a colossal opportunity to convince Ghanaians of his credibility.

The Need To Take Accountability

More so, Dr. Kofi Dogbey argued that Ghana’s current economic standing is as a result of the poor decisions made by the incumbent administration which Dr. Bawumia played a major role in as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT).

“Dr. Bawumia is in a position today to implement right now some of his visions that he is selling to Ghanaians without having to wait to be President first. It will be a better success story in my opinion if Dr Bawumia takes responsibility for the failures of the current administration.”

Dr Wisdom Kofi Dogbey

Dr Kofi Dogbey opined that had the Vice President resigned as a result of his supposed disagreement with the President, his address would have resonated well with Ghanaians.

The remarks of the Financial Analyst, Dr Wisdom K. Dogbey, were made in regards to the Vice President’s attempt to excuse himself from the incumbent government and its policy failures. Dr. Kofi Dogbey opined that the Vice President is a good economist however the circumstance

Conclusively, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has been under a lot of attacks concerning his remarks during his address that seem to have shielded him from the government. The comments of the Vice President has created a division among Ghanaians as to whether or not Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has the moral right to absolve himself of the role he played in government. While one faction of the public defended that the Vice President’s role was largely advisory, others described his action as irresponsible.
