Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has praised the residents of Assin North for their overwhelming support of the party during the by-election that was held on Tuesday, June 27.
He was especially happy that despite the many benefits and gifts given out by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the public chose to reject the NPP by following their moral convictions and being sincere.
At a gathering held at Assin-Bereku to thank the people, Mr. Fiavi Kwetey remarked that the propensity for vote selling and buying reeked of poor governance, fostered corruption, and was a blow to Ghana’s democratic credentials.
He asserted that neither political party nor government agency should speak down to the unspoken opinions of the people of Assin North but must rather issue a call to responsibility for the entire country that is guided by honesty and competence.
The public “cannot be taken with fiction of development and bribes for votes,” he specifically cautioned political parties.
“That is the message Ghanaians from far and near must imbibe. If they come to you to buy your conscience, tell them I will not sell my conscience and integrity for the country to suffer.”

Moreover, the NDC General Secretary also urged the Supreme Court, the media, and the Electoral Commission to follow the unambiguous message shared by the residents of Assin North by remaining committed to its goal.
The member of parliament representing Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, also thanked his admirers for their support.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the people have expressed in what I stand for and what I have done. I am also fully aware of the reciprocal responsibilities that this massive show of confidence imposes on me. My solemn pledge is to work as hard as I can for the people who have made this possible.”

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the leader of the minority caucus in parliament and the representative for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, vowed that the party will always support James Gyakye Quayson at his court appearances on charges of forgery and perjury.
He served notice to the minority that whenever he was set to appear in court, they should spare no effort to support the persecuted member.
NDC To Resist Any ‘Sinister’ Plot By EC To Manipulate 2024 General Elections
The Electoral Commission (EC) will face pushback, according to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in any attempt to rig the 2024 elections.
As stated by the NDC, the EC’s ‘evil’ plans to use the Ghana Card as the only source document for voter registration would be vehemently opposed and stopped.
Former President and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama declared that his party would not let itself to be duped.
“It is in this light that we in the NDC wish to make clear that we will resist and prevent any sinister plot by the EC to manipulate the outcome of the 2024 elections, even before the first ballot is cast through the needless and unapproved insistence of the Ghana Card as the only means of registration.
“The EC remains intransigent and appears determined to make it difficult for sections of our population to have their names on the voter register.”
John Dramani Mahama
This is not the first time the NDC has accused the EC of scheming to rig the polls.
