Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the spokesperson for the NDC flagbearer, has praised John Mahama for his investments in power infrastructure and energy diversification, which provided lasting solutions.
She noted that his actions helped stabilize the power sector during the “dumsor” crisis, ensuring Ghana no longer faces the severe energy issues it once did.
“Mahama’s decisive leadership extended beyond energy issues. He undertook the bold step of fuel price deregulation, a policy that stabilized the petroleum sector and improved transparency.
“This move, together with the introduction of the Energy Sector Levy (ESLA), though unpopular with NPP at the time, was a calculated and necessary step toward building an efficient, market-driven economy that supports growth and stability”.

Mogtari further emphasized that Mahama’s policies benefited Ghana so much that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government was eager to collateralize ESLA.
She also praised Mahama’s bold decision to take the Ivory Coast maritime border dispute to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), safeguarding Ghana’s offshore oil fields for future generations. “Yes, this is the man whose actions continue to serve Ghana well, long after he left office…”,
Mogtari pointed out that Mahama’s establishment of the Stabilization and Heritage Funds strengthened Ghana’s economy, providing stability during downturns and securing resources for future generations.
She also noted his success in attracting the highest FDI in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, boosting infrastructure and business growth.
However, she lamented that under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, many businesses are either closing or relocating to more favorable environments in neighboring countries like Togo, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria. “Yet, between 2012 and 2016 alone, FDI grew to nearly $4 billion, as Ghana became a hub of opportunity for both African and international businesses”.
She argued that the boom was not just about numbers but also led to significant infrastructure development that transformed the nation’s economy.
Mogtari emphasized that in just four years, Mahama’s administration completed more infrastructure projects than any other in Ghana’s history, except perhaps Osagyefo’s.
These, she indicated, include roads, hospitals, schools, and energy projects that improved living standards and boosted economic prospects.
Mahama’s Role In Strengthening State Institutions Emphasized
Furthermore, Joyce Bawah Mogtari further stated that during Mahama’s tenure, he prioritized empowering state institutions to operate independently and transparently.
She highlighted that bodies like the Electoral Commission and the judiciary were given the autonomy to function without interference, thereby boosting public trust in governance.
“Today, this legacy of institutional independence stands in sharp contrast to concerns about the erosion of state institutions’ credibility.
“Mahama’s track record has shown Ghanaians the importance of nurturing these institutions to build a fairer, more accountable society”.

She also indicated that President Mahama has long championed women’s empowerment and representation in nation-building.
Mogtari pointed out that Mahama’s selection of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as vice-presidential candidate was a historic step, showcasing his commitment to a diverse government.
She noted that With her exceptional academic and public service background, Professor Opoku-Agyemang serves as a role model for young girls and a testament to Mahama’s vision of a stronger Ghana driven by the contributions of women.
The NDC stalwart indicated that President Mahama’s 2024 Resetting Ghana Manifesto presents a practical and inspiring vision for the country’s future.
She noted that key proposals include a 24-hour Economy to boost business activity and job creation, making Ghana more competitive globally.
Mogtari stated that Mahama’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) aims to modernize farming with technology, increasing staple crop production and enhancing food security.
The Youth Employment and Empowerment Agenda, she asserted, focuses on tackling youth unemployment by creating jobs in sectors like agribusiness, digital tech, and renewable energy. “President Mahama’s commitment to Ghana’s future is unshakeable”.
Mogtari emphasized that Mahama’s vision is rooted in a proven record of perseverance, courage, and understanding of Ghana’s challenges.
According to her, the former President’s leadership offers both passion and experience to guide the nation through uncertainty.
As such, she maintained that with a focus on truth, empowerment, and a resilient economy, Mahama is committed to a brighter future for all Ghanaians, unlike the inequality seen in the past eight years.
“Together, under his [Mahama’s] leadership, Ghana can re-set and realize the promise of its potential – building a nation that not only dreams of greatness but is prepared to achieve it”.
