The opposition National Democratic Congress disqualified Parliamentary Aspirant in the Odododiodio Constituency, Michael Nii Yarbio Annan has accused the leadership of the party of deliberating ousting him from the parliamentary primaries in the constituency without basis.
Reacting to the statement released by the party’s General Secretary on the respective reasons leading to his disqualification, Mr Yarbio Annan denied the allegations that he is not in good standing as a member of the National Democratic Congress.
He further indicated that he strongly disagreed with parts of the Adhoc Committee report that was subsequently endorsed by the Functional Executive Committee of the party.
“Yes, I have been in good standing of NDC membership for four years. I have the old and the new party card as well. Out of love, I paid my dues more than I was supposed to pay in 2019, which was backdated to 2017. What I was told by the chairman is what I did; how then will that be the basis to disqualify me? If I feel something is wrong, it is wrong; if I know it is wrong, then I know it is wrong”.

Mr Yarbio Annan thus expressed his disappointment in the decision of the party to disqualified him from the parliamentary primaries in the Ododdiodio Constituency and emphasized that he does not accept the decision by the party.
The National Democratic Congress disqualified Michael Nii Yarbio Annan from contesting the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio constituency following recommendations made against him by the special committee established by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party.
According to the party, considering the evidence presented, the special committee was unable to endorse Mr. Yarbio Annan’s qualification to contest the parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio constituency based on Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, which provides that, ‘a member must be an active member of the party at the constituency level for the four years immediately preceding the date of filing nominations’.
The General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey in a statement issued on Monday, December 4 2023 indicated that the Special Committee discovered that Mr Yarbio Annan was formerly a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who contested and lost the NPP parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency in September 2019, hence the basis for his disqualification.
