At the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Manifesto on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, renowned Ghanaian actress and movie producer Kafui Danku passionately outlined the opposition party’s plans and vision to revitalize the country’s creative arts, music, and sports sectors.

Addressing the gathering, Danku highlighted the NDC’s commitment to restoring the country’s pride in these vital areas, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to nurturing talent and providing sustainable support to creative enterprises.

She began by acknowledging the widespread dissatisfaction with the performance of Ghana’s national sports teams, particularly at international events like the Olympics.

She also lamented the decline of the senior national football team and extended her concerns to the overall state of sports in the country.

Highlighting the NDC’s deep passion for sports and the arts, Danku outlined former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for reviving and expanding various sports disciplines that have been neglected in recent years.

“Apart from football, a lot of other sporting activities have not been very popular lately. So apart from sports and boxing, President Mahama is going to also work on reviving beach soccer, volleyball, regatta, and more”.

Danku also emphasized the importance of integrating sports development into the educational system, drawing parallels with the successful model of the Right to Dream Academy.

She pointed out that former President John Dramani Mahama will prioritize the development of classroom work for young people so that as they learn, they also develop their talents.

According to her, the next NDC administration will collaborate with federations and industry experts to establish frameworks to foster this initiative.

This initiative, she noted, involves training more technical personnel and providing the necessary infrastructure to support talent development at the grassroots level.

NDC-Mahama’s Vision to Develop Creative Arts

Furthermore, the actress and producer turned her attention to the creative arts industry, which she noted holds a special place in her heart.

She shared her personal experiences and the challenges faced by many in the industry, highlighting the need for sustainable financial support.

“A creative arts fund will be instituted to offer sustainable financial support to start-ups and existing creative enterprises,” she announced, adding that the fund would provide much-needed relief to filmmakers and other creatives struggling to finance their projects.

She recounted a recent conversation with a fellow actor who had not been able to produce a movie due to a lack of funds, underscoring the critical need for such a fund.

Danku urged the creative community to seize the opportunity presented by the upcoming 2024 general elections to choose a government that genuinely cares about its development.

According to her, a vote for former President John Dramani Mahama is a vote for capacity building, education, and sports in the arts and tourism sector, making a strong case for the NDC’s vision for the creative arts.

The NDC’s plans to empower young artists and facilitate the export of culture and artistic goods and services were also highlighted.

Kafui Danku announced that the next National Democratic Congress administration under former President John Dramani would set up world-class studios to produce high-quality content that can compete on a global scale.

She envisioned that the above initiatives and proposals by the opposition National Democratic Congress will be a springboard in reviving the country’s creative arts, music and sports, when elected to power in the December 7 polls.
