President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the stunning Borteyman Sport Complex, marking the 25th-day countdown to the highly anticipated 13th African Games.
Today’s event according to President Akufo-Addo holds exceptional significance for Ghana, as it proudly hosts the prestigious African Games for the first time in its fifty-seven-year history.
President Akufo-Addo further emphasized the historical importance of Ghana hosting the prestigious African Games and indicated that Ghana as a founding member of the African Games under the visionary leadership of the late former President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has waited patiently for its turn to showcase its capabilities on the continental stage.
“The question is, why has Ghana not hosted the African Games until now? The answer is simple: there is a time for everything; and this is our time. We are now ready and capable of organising and hosting the rest of the continent, here in Ghana”

President Akufo-Addo also noted that despite loud calls by some ‘pessimists’ for Ghana to withdraw from hosting the tournament, the country has remained resolute, and, it is very proud of the massive sporting infrastructure it has put in place for the Games, which will be a huge legacy for the country.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the Borteyman Sport Complex stands as a testament to Ghana’s unwavering determination, featuring state-of-the-art facilities that will leave a lasting legacy for the country.
With the Games poised to attract five thousand elite athletes, three thousand experienced officials, and a multitude of enthusiastic fans, President Akufo-Addo indicated that Ghana aims to provide an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.
Furthermore, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his address during the commissioning ceremony expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the African Union for entrusting Ghana with such a monumental responsibility to host the All African Games.
Construction Of One Hundred Artificial Pitches
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that government will construct one hundred new artificial pitches across the country, before the end of the year.
President Akufo-Addo strongly emphasized his government’s commitment towards sporting development in the country and recounted the numerous investment it has undertaken since it assumed power in 2017.
According to President Akufo-Addo, his government’s commitment to sporting development in the country is largely seen in the huge investment it has made in sport infrastructure over the past seven years.
“When we came into office, there were only three astro-turfs or artificial pitches in the country. We have constructed over 150 artificial pitches to change the status quo. I am happy to announce that this will not be the end. We will construct 100 more of such pitches to enhance the existing infrastructure”.

President Akufo-Addo also charged the Sports Ministry to ensure Ghana raises the bar as far as hosting the continent’s biggest multi-sports event is concerned.
As the 13th African Games approach, Ghana anticipates not only a display of exceptional athleticism but also the strengthening of bonds across the African continent.
The event is poised to transcend sport, fostering unity and collaboration among nations.
