Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has described security regarding the quarantine and escape of Jamaican dancehall artiste, Beenie Man after testing positive for COVID-19 as quite disappointing.
The Security analyst intimated that a lot more people wouldn’t take the COVID-19 measures seriously because when such illegalities are condoned frequently, it seeks to make people to start feeling that by virtue of their status there are ways and means to get out of situations.
“And I hope that we don’t just talk about this and let it go like we do to other topics and only talk about it when something similar happens again”.
Adib Saani
Adib Saani called for security officials to ensure that there is a thorough investigation to see to whether indeed someone was sleeping on the job or there was some degree of culpability in what happened.
“It should not be allowed to slide whatsoever. The officials have to know that we need to know what led to the gentleman [Beenie Man] being released in the first place after calling the state a bluff after all the interventions had been implemented by the government. And you and I, what we have also done at the personal level to ensure that we reduce the rate of infections in the country”.
Adib Saani
His comments follow allegations that Jamaican Dancehall artiste, Beenie Man broke lawful COVID-19 quarantine measures to perform at shows despite testing positive and eloped the country afterwards.
Touching on if he foresees the investigations to be fruitful after the suspect had eloped the country, Adib Saani indicated that there will be positive results in the investigation.
“Of course, I mean usually that’s the thing using the knee jerk approach. Just because we want to stay safe, there is always a tendency of taking some funny actions to make the Ghanaian population feel that they are committed”.
Adib Saani
The Security analyst averred that as the main culprit has left the country, the nation must ensure to go beyond prosecuting the organizers and also prosecute whoever might be involved in getting the dancehall artiste out of Ghana back to his country.
“Because the next minute, another celebrity might want to do same and even those persons arriving whether they are Ghanaians or not will begin to feel that this is just a process and they can bypass it. When they do that, it will make the country feel like a banana republic”.
Adib Saani
Adib Saani then called for further action not just on the organizers of the shows he performed at but also what actually led to the release of Beenie Man.
National Security investigating happenings
Speaking on the issue, the Presidential advisor on Health, Dr. Nsiah Asare, indicated that the National Security is spearheading investigations into how the dancehall artiste escaped lawful quarantine and the country as well after testing positive to COVID-19.
“So, the National Security and the security agencies are trying to find out how he got out of isolation to go and perform”.
Dr. Nsiah Asare
He also intimated that he does not believe the security agencies treated him leniently because he is a foreigner after testing positive for the virus.
“At this stage we have to get the full facts before we can pass any judgement. I think they treated everybody equally and not because you are a Ghanaian or a foreigner”.
Dr. Nsiah Asare
Dr. Nsiah-Asare also confirmed that indeed the dancehall artiste tested positive to COVID-19 when he arrived in the country.
