Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has cast doubts on Former President John Mahama’s ability to manifest his promises to the youth of the country.

According to him, the Former President’s record speaks volumes about him, his government and how he will handle the affairs of the country.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, in a Facebook post on 12 August, 2020, assured the youth of more job opportunities should he be voted into office.

This was part of his message to the youth on International Youth Day. The leader of the NDC stated that the ‘major plan’ of his second coming as President is to create more jobs for the youth in the country.

“Your burning entrepreneurial spirit and initiative remain undying even in these difficult times. We shall harness the enormous innovative & creative talents and also magnify youth participation in the governance and decision-making of our country.”

However, addressing an NPP youth conference, Dr Bawumia indicated that the former President’s deeds while in office contradicts his current assurances.

“Promises are one thing but deeds and actions are another. Actions speak louder than words and John Mahama’s record of incompetence has already spoken loudly.”

The NDC’s flagbearer has also pledged that, when he wins the upcoming elections he will maintain the Free Senior High School policy but improve its quality to enhance teaching and learning.

In addition, he has promised to create over a million jobs and pay monthly salaries to assembly members.

However, Dr. Bawumia, insisted during his speech with the NPP youth that, John Mahama during his tenure did not create jobs nor did he implement policies that could benefit the youth and therefore should not be trusted.

While discrediting his opponent, the Vice President highlighted some of the things the governing NPP has done to help the youth since his party assumed office in 2017.

“And I’m happy to tell you that we have created over two million full-time equivalent jobs in the public and private formal sectors since 2017 and this is inclusive of the government’s job creative programmes and initiatives such as Planting for Food and Jobs, NABCO graduates programme, National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), and so on.”

According to him, the government has

“established a national job recruitment agency through the Youth Employment Agency’s job market centres to match graduate youth with job openings.

“We have also implemented the Ghana Innovation Hub for young students in businesses.”

He reiterated his party’s commitment to introduce transformative policies for the youth and the country, a feat he thinks the NDC cannot emulate.

Dr Bawumia pointed out that, his government is on a path to improve the fortunes of the state and must, therefore, be given the nod in the impending general elections.

“We are building a new government and we have to continue on that path we cannot go back.”
