We’re Not Surprised That NDC Stooped Low – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Information Minister - Honorable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has scoffed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for turning a video of a 2016 campaign donation to then-candidate Akufo-Addo to falsely accuse him of bribery.

This comes on the back of an emergency press conference by the NDC dubbed “The Mother of All Corruption”, where the party released a video which indicated that President Akufo-Addo had received a $40,000 bribe from the Director of Urban Roads, in order not to dismiss him from office.

But Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a statement issued on Wednesday noted that, although the news did not come as a surprise to the governing New Patriotic Party, the said video being circulated as evidence of President Akufo-Addo taking bribe is doctored and must be disregarded.

According to him, the NDC Presidential Candidate, John Mahama is clutching on false messages to revive his collapsed campaign such as, spreading fake news by superimposing the original video with new voices to create a false impression that President Akufo-Addo is receiving a bribe.

“Whilst we are not surprised by the new low by the opposition candidate and his party, we remind Ghanaians that they should expect more of such falsehoods and fabrications in the days leading up to the election.

“It has become clear that candidate Mahama’s failed campaign now sees fake news and fabrications, as well as an amendment of their earlier promises as the only hope to salvage what is going to be another decisive victory for President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.

The Ofoase-Ayirebi MP also added that he is very disappointed in the NDC for stooping low to fabricate false information about the President and the NPP administration.

“We are disappointed that Mr. Mahama and the current NDC leadership will stoop so low with obvious fabrications which they hope can change the minds of Ghanaians. It is and will always be their stock-in-trade.

“The people of Ghana are discerning and will not be swayed by obvious fabrications designed by persons who always seek to bring the name of the Republic into disrepute and sully its image amongst the comity of nations.”

He further advised the media and general public to be vigilant in order not to fall prey to the antics of the opposition NDC whose main objective is to tarnish the image of the country for their parochial gains.

“For the avoidance of doubt, President Akufo-Addo has never been involved in any untoward conduct, let alone take a bribe. The original footage of the incident shows it clearly as a 2016 campaign donation and nothing more,” he stressed.
