President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has released names of his appointments to the Council of State for his second term.
The President named 11 persons including the immediate past Chair of the Council, Nana Otuo Siriboe, to form part of the composition of the Council according to a release from the Jubilee House.
A statement from the Communications Directorate of Jubilee House released and signed by Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, indicates that a total of 11 people have been appointed to the Council.
According to the communique, Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, the legal practitioner, Sam Okudzeto and Stanley Blankson have all been maintained by the President.
The others include Dr Magaret Amoakohene, Georgina Kusi, Alberta Cudjoe, Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, Prof Ato Essuman, Alhaji Aminu Amadu, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI and Alhaji Sule Yiremiah.
The President, subject to consultation with Parliament, has also appointed, in accordance with Article 89(2)(a)(i)(ii) and (iii), Georgina Theodora Wood, a former Chief Justice, Lt. Gen. J.B. Danquah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces, and Nana Owusu Nsiah, a former Inspector General of Police, to the Council.
The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, is ex-officio a member of the Council, in furtherance of Article 89(2) (b).
The composition of the Council will be completed with the election, due to be held on 12th February 2021, of the regional representatives, in accordance with Article 89(2)(c).
The Council of State among other things, counsels the President in the performance of his functions.
It may also, upon request or on its own initiative, consider and make recommendations on any matter being considered or dealt with by the President, a Minister of State, Parliament or any other authority.
“The Council is required to consider and advise the President or any other authority in respect of any appointment which is required by the Constitution or any other law to be made in accordance with the advice of, or in consultation with the Council,” Article 89 of the Constitution states.
President Akufo-Addo made similar appointment on January 19, 2021, by releasing names of 13 new key appointees at the Presidency in his second term in office.
All the appointees are to undertake their duties in acting capacities, subject to consultation with the yet-to-be constituted Council of State.
New entrants included Emmanuel Adumua-Bossman and Fawaz Aliu named as the two new Deputy Chiefs Of Staff to replace Francis Asenso Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor who are now Members of Parliament.
Adumua-Bossman worked as the Director of the Impact Assessment Unit in the Office of the President from 2018 to 2020 and was also the Director for Planning and Implementation with the National Security unit from 2017 to 2018.
Fawaz Aliu, also part of the apointees is a young and experienced diplomat from Dagbon. He served as the focal point for coordinating President’ Akufo-Addo’s foreign relations engagements in his first tenure and also assisted the Secretary to the President in managing the president’s secretariat.
