E.T Mensah declared winner in Greater Accra.

The former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Enoch Teye Mensah has been declared winner of the Council of State election in the Greater Accra Region by the Electoral Commission.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Kwame Amoah, the former Youth and Sports Minister got 100 percent of the votes cast to win the slot (58 votes).

He beat two other contenders to win the elections, held across the country today, February 12 in accordance with Paragraph (C) of Clause 2 of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution. Before the elections, Nii Kotei Dzani, who had represented the Region in the last Council, withdrew from the race. Charles Andrew Parker-Allotey also had to withdraw “due to reasons beyond his control”. Therefore, E.T Mensah was left with Michael Kofi Mensah and John Mantse Akwetey to contend with.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked the electorates for their confidence in him and pledged to work diligently to ensure the development of the region and the country at large.

The Agona Akrofonsohene, Nana Owusu Achaw Brempong, has been re-elected the Ashanti Region’s representative of the Council of State. The 66-year-old polled 77 out of 86 valid votes cast as Justice Baffour Awuah, a journalist and James Adusei-Sarkodie, a teacher, withdrew from the race at the last minute. Nana Bobie Ansah II polled six votes while James Nana Prempeh, had only three votes with the remaining candidates recording no vote.

In his acceptance speech, Nana Brempong thanked the delegates for believing in him and assured that he will present the region’s interest to the president.

“The victory is for all Ashantis and not me as an individual… While with the council, I would focus my energy on what I believe are our priorities in the region. I will continue to push the government’s agenda on agriculture such as planting for food and jobs and planting for exports to enhance the livelihood of people in the Ashanti region.

“As far as I am concerned, we will work tirelessly to protect the good name of our Great Kingdom and improve the development of this region.”
