Card-less ATM Access Goes Live in Africa and Other Countries

Zemen Bank VP and Fintan Byrne, CEO of CR2

CR2, one of the world’s leading digital and payment platform providers, has announced that it has started providing card-less ATM access in key financial institutions in Africa and other countries, as it continues to drive innovation across the globe. This is expected to allow customers to withdraw cash without physical ATM card.

According to Fintan Byrne, the CEO of the leading digital platform providers, the company’s major concern for bank customers worldwide in this time of global pandemic is, “how they can access their daily banking needs without touching surfaces such as ATMs.”

“We are providing this zero-touch ATM cash withdrawal solution for some of the most progressive banks on the African continent today, a solution that protects and reassures customers.”

Fintan Byrne

Explaining how the card-less ATM access works, the company noted that customers will only scan QR Code embedded in an app to withdraw their money.

CR2 CEO responded to these concerns by allowing bank customers to withdraw cash, without physically touching the ATM. It is done by simply scanning a QR Code on the ATM using their mobile phone.

Fintan Byrne assured customers and the banks that the new technology is safe and suitable to use. The company suggested that with the rate at which the pandemic is mutating, the innovation will help lower the risk.

“Now live in eight countries, the card-less solution allows customers to leave their cards in their wallets and withdraw cash using their mobile phones. It’s safe, secure, quick and convenient. No card is required and there is no need to worry about touching public surfaces.”

Fintan Byrne asserted that the company will develop ‘Super Apps’ that will champion the next generation of banking sector needs.

“We are currently working with banks in Africa, Asia and the Middle East on further innovations that will be at the heart of the next generation of ‘Super Apps’, as customer needs change and technology provides solutions to challenges that are still over the horizon”.

How COVID-19 Inspires the Card-less ATM

The outbreak of COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption of digital banking as customers seek to bank safely, in a bid to avoid the virus. Nevertheless, the ATM remains an important access channel for cash.

Fintan Byrne, CR2 CEO, noted that CR2’s BankWorld ATM client intersects the physical channel with the bank’s own mobile banking app to provide a card-less, safe access to cash. He indicated that the solution is available on all BankWorld ATM Clients, and seamlessly integrates with the existing card management system and mobile app deployed within the bank.

“COVID-19 is a once in a century event, demanding innovation and rapid problem- solving from banks that have to respond to urgent customer concerns and behavioral changes. We listened to our customers and responded quickly to their needs with a solution that intersects this physical channel with digital banking.”

CR2 provides banks with digital, self-Service and payment solutions to grow their businesses, optimize their customer service cost, and deliver an enhanced customer experience. Headquartered in Ireland, the company is enabling over 100 banks in 60 countries to seamlessly connect and engage with their customers on the most critical banking channels today.
