GCB Bank PLC Pledges to Support Ghana’s Tourism Industry

Executives of GCB Bank PLC and UKGCC

Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, the Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, has given assurance to support the tourism sector of the Ghanaian economy towards the realization of the sector’s potential.

According to the Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, the tourism sector has the potential to rake in more funds for the economy. He stressed that GCB Bank PLC would offer the necessary support to help the sector to flourish and generate more jobs for Ghanaians.

Mr. Kofi Adomakoh made this known when speaking during a courtesy call on the Management of GCB Bank PLC by the Executives of the United Kingdom Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) in Accra. Mr. Adomakoh intimated that the Bank would extend financial and technical support to individuals and companies operating in the tourism sector to transform tourism business and activities in Ghana and beyond.

The meeting was attended by Steve Ababio and Gina Arthur- authors of the ‘Chasing Waterfalls,’ tour guides and notebooks, following the successful launch of the books and documentary.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director indicated that GCB Bank in its commitment to promote tourism and domestic businesses has partnered with the UKGCC to launch the tour guidebooks, photobooks, and exhibitions designed to direct and give more information on Ghana’s waterfalls. The launch of the books and documentary was sponsored by GCB, Ghana’s largest commercial bank.

The Need for Stakeholders to Strategize

Mr. Adomakoh stressed the need for stakeholders in the tourism sector to strategize to add value and promote and develop the tourism sector holistically. This, he said, will attract more people thereby increasing the revenue for the sector.

The GCB MD noted that the partnership between Ghana and UK has been consolidated over the years and that the partnership between GCB and the UKGCC would help deepen the relationship for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Mr. Samuel Aidoo, the newly appointed Executive Director of GCB Bank PlC, on his part, averred that the bank has clear offerings for Ghanaians abroad and the tourism industry as a whole.

The Executive Secretary of the United Kingdom-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Adjoba Kyiama, expressed appreciation to the Management of GCB for maintaining a healthy relationship with the Chamber and also supporting tourism development.

Ms. Adjoba Kyiama opined that tourism offers a wonderful opportunity for the promotion of business activities and services in Ghana and the UK. She explained that tourism is a key economic driver in the country which generates foreign exchange earnings, creates jobs and wealth as well as stimulates other sectors of the economy.

A co-author of the Chasing Waterfalls, Steve Ababio, announced that their work covered 29 waterfalls in a period of six months.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Samuel K. Aidoo, Executive Director and Wholesale and Investment Banking at GCB Bank PLC; Mr. Eric Coffie, Chief Digital and Marketing Officer (CDMO); Mr. Emmanuel Kojo Kwarteng, Head of Corporate Affairs, GCB Bank PLC; and Mr. Kofi Osei-Asibey, Executive Business Manager of GCB Bank PLC.
