President Akufo-Addo Congratulates Lizz Truss On Appointment As UK’s Prime Minister

UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has revealed that that "currencies are under pressure around the world”, blaming Russia's invasion of Ukraine for economic turbulence globally.

President Akufo-Addo has congratulated Rt. Hon. Lizz Truss on her election as the leader of the Conservative Party and as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

According to him, she is as determined as government is to find a satisfactory way out for the benefit of the British people, as “we also work for the benefit of the Ghanaian people”. He revealed that her appointment will indeed bring much needed reforms in the UK.

“I congratulate warmly Rt. Hon. Lizz Truss on her election as the leader of the Conservative Party and as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She is taking over the reins of leadership of the UK at a time when her country and, indeed, the entire world finds itself in turmoil.”

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo recounted the constructive and instrumental role Lizz Truss played as Trade Secretary, in the signing of a £1.2bn trade deal between Ghana and the UK last year. This, he explained, has reinforced the strength of the relations between the two countries.

“I send her best wishes for the success of her tenure in office, and I look forward to working with her to deepen the ties of friendship and the bonds of cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom. I wish her God’s blessings.”

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on September 6, 2022, appointed Liz Truss as prime minister during a meeting at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The Queen received in Audience The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP and requested her to form a new Administration. Ms Truss, a statement revealed, accepted Her Majesty’s offer and “kissed hands upon her appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury”.

Britains promised better days ahead

Addressing the crowd on Downing Street, Lizz Truss promised taking action this week on energy bills to help Britons “ride out the storm” and filling out a cabinet that rewarded her loyalists in the contest to replace Boris Johnson. The outgoing Boris Johnson compared himself to a rocket booster that has “fulfilled its function” and to ancient Roman statesman/dictator Cincinnatus, who returned to his farm after saving the republic from invasion.

Ms Truss on the other hand, leaned on the weather as a metaphor for the economic challenges facing Britain. Nonetheless, she offered no fresh details on how the government planned to help people cope with soaring inflation and runaway costs.

“As strong as this storm may be, I know the British people are stronger… We have what it takes to tackle those challenges. Of course, it won’t be easy, but we can do it. We will transform Britain into an aspiration nation.”

Lizz Truss

With some experts warning that millions of Britons could face destitution from energy bills that could jump 80% in October and spike again in January, Ms. Truss is widely expected to authorize a massive state intervention in the energy markets. Those details, which could include capping energy prices at a cost to the government of $100 billion or more, will presumably be rolled out in the coming days.
