President of Small Scale Miners Association, Michael Kojo Preprah, has revealed that Chinese ‘galamsey queen’, Huang Ruixia, popularly known as Aisha Huang, has been in the country for the past two years.

According to him, Ghanaians only knew about her presence in Ghana again when she was reported by another Chinese man. He explained that Aisha Huang had a “problem with a Chinese national and that has brought about her arrest”.

Mr Peprah noted that if it wasn’t bcause the Chinese man had reported her, she wouldn’t have been arrested and facing any charges from the State.

“As matter of fact, Aisha Huang has been in this country for the past two years. She has been going around her normal activities – supermarket and mining activities. We saw her in the Ashanti region and honestly speaking, she was working in a forest called Numiri forest reserve at Saman-Boi.”

The President of the Small Scale Miners Association revealed that there are Chinese nationals who are mining in Ghana’s forest reserves under the protection of State security. He emphasized that a trip to Odahu forest reserve, Asasaman forest reserve and Numiri in Saman-Boi will reveal “Chinese nationals who are mining with impunity”.

Elsewhere, Mr Peprah, alleged that Aisha Huang returned to the country six months after her deportation. He stated that she was spotted by some small scale miners at Dadieso, a town close to the Ivory Coast border months after her deportation.

“After six months, she was sighted around Dadieso. As a matter of fact, in that enclave, there is a mining activity going on. She was having her activities close to the Côte d’Ivoire border and when things become tough, she would go to Côte d’Ivoire and when things come down, she comes back to Ghana. She stayed there for a while then she moved to Mali and she later decided to come back to settle here. That is how come she came on a Togolese visa.”

Politicians ‘funding’ Aisha Huang’s activities

Mr Peprah indicated that for Aisha Huang to come back to the country and engage in the same activity, it is crucial for one to “understand that there are some big shots behind it because she herself is not super powerful”.

He emphasized that there are politicians who find her as a “money bag” and in so doing, do everything in their own possible way to protect her.

Meanwhile, Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is set to prosecute notorious Aisha Huang for her past and recent crimes. Contained in a Facebook post, the Attorney General per his request, assures that he will initiate prosecution against Miss Huang, in respect of her current alleged offences as well as those of 2017 before her deportation from Ghana in 2019.

“Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called for the docket on En Huang, a.k.a. Aisha Huang, from the Police…”

Office of the Attorey General

The 47-year-old Chinese national was in 2019 deported by government, a move which triggered questions about Ghana’s commitment to eradicating the menace. However, the announcement of her re-arrest within the country’s borders has reignited this concern.
