Ghanaian politician and statesman, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, has expressed worry over President Akufo-Addo’s delay in terminating the appointment of the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to him, the hesitation to dismiss the Minister simply means, the President needs his cousin at post to perform some duties that are not in the interest of the nation.

Speaking in an interview today November 16 2022, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe opined that, the Finance Minister should have resigned the very day Ghana decided to seek economic support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In his view, Mr Ofori-Atta had pledged not to take the country to the Fund because “We are a proud people.”

“So ask yourself, why is he still there? When a person is in position and the populace says ‘we’ve had enough of you, go away’ and still he wants to be there, the simple thing that should come to the mind of any ordinary Ghanaian is that, he is sitting on the rot. When he is not there, we will see how massive the rot is.”

Commenting on who Hon Ofori Atta is covering up for, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe asked, “Who is the appointing authority of this country? And has President Akuffo Addo approved of his dismissal?

“The President should have asked him to go away. Here, we have a situation where even an ordinary person in the streets is asking for the removal of his cousin.”

People Around Akuffo Addo Afraid To Tell Him The Truth

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe further expressed his disappointment in the way President Akufo-Addo has managed the country’s affairs. According to the politician, the personalities surrounding the President have not done much in pushing the country in the right direction.

To him, the present downturn Ghana is currently experiencing is an evidence to the fact that the President’s disciples have contributed little in pushing the President toward national development

“These are people who are afraid to tell him exactly what is happening. This happened to a lot of Presidents in this country. If Nana Addo will listen, I’m sure the way he is going right now, he will never go there.”

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasized that Akuffo Addo’s advisors and helpers have failed to tell him the true situation.

“People have been accused of several things and there have been infractions all over since Akufo-Addo came into power. What has been done to them?

“I know Nana Addo was not like that, so what has happened? I’m surprised. The Nana Addo that I knew is not the one that is ruling Ghana now.”

For the past few months, some Ghanaians including politicians and government appointees, have been calling for the resignation or dismissal of the Finance Minister, due to the current economic crisis facing the country.

Things became dreadful for the President when some 80 NPP Parliamentarians now 98, held a press conference demanding that the Finance Minister be fired. At the moment, the spokesperson for the group, Hon Andy Appiah Kubi, who is the MP for Asante-Akim South Constituency, has disclosed that they will boycott the 2023 Budget Presentation and all other Finanace Ministry business, should the President refuse to dismiss the Minister before the Budget Presentation.

Meanwhile, the Minority caucus in Parliament has moved a motion for a censure vote against Mr Ofori-Atta. Currently, an Ad-hoc committee has been setup to interrogate the matter.

However, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe noted that this long process won’t be needed if the President had just terminated the appointment of his cousin.
