The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally opened the 2023 presidential election collation centre at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu opened the centre and set certain ground rules for the collation of results.

“The collation centre is hereby declared open until the final announcement of the results of the 2023 presidential election,” he said.

Yakubu announced that the collation of presidential election results will be done at four levels — first at the 8,889 wards, then at the 774 local government areas, then the Resident Electoral Commissioners at the 36 states and the FCT will submit the votes per candidate in Abuja.

The electoral chief said the collation centre will be open all day and all night with short breaks. He also cautioned political parties to only draw their figures from INEC.

Due to the non-arrival of election results from states, the Centre has gone on break.

Collation from states will resume by 6pm. By then, results from states would have arrived.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cautioned political parties against the release of presidential and National Assembly election results, stressing that only the commission is “legally responsible” for the release of election results.

“I appeal to all political parties and media organisations to draw their figures only from the official results released by the commission as the only body constitutionally responsible for releasing official election figures.”

The Polling unit has 1, 304 registered voters. However, apart from the late arrival of INEC ad-hoc staff at about 1 pm on Saturday, accreditation and voting could not take place due to the malfunctioning of the BVAS Machine.
