Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, has safeguarded Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, against allegations by Professor Frimpong-Boateng that he (Kojo Oppong Nkrumah) attempted to disrupt Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s job, while serving as Chairman of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

The report authored by Prof Frimpong-Boateng brought up allegations against the Minister of Information, for gathering the media to plot the downfall of Prof Frimpong-Boateng and write negative stories of his work as the Chairman of the IMCIM.

Samuel Abu Jinapor, however, in an interview, claimed the Minister of Information is clean of all standards.

“I know the Information Minister to be a gentleman of honor…I will never in my wildest of imagination, come to the suspicion that the Information Minister will engage in such an act. He is a fine and decent gentleman, who does his business with a lot of integrity and candor.”

Samuel Abu Jinapor

The galamsey report made several allegations against some government and political party officials, who allegedly made various attempts to thwart his efforts in clamping down on illegal mining in the country. As stated by the report, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s briefs to Cabinet on the missing excavators’ saga, were deliberate and sinister acts, targeted at him and his fight against galamsey.

However, Oppong Nkrumah denied engaging in any scheme or practice that seek to hurt others, as it goes against his principles and upbringing, questioning the feasibility and prudence of a scenario of getting both NPP and NDC affiliated journalists to work against a colleague minister.

In a rebuttal, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng claimed he had a piece of fatherly advice for Kojo Oppong Nkurmah.

“My advice is, always remember that political power is both short-lived and effervescent. In about 2 years’ time, you may no longer be in government, and you may experience the real world as former high-profile political power holders do.

“I will urge you to do your work diligently and avoid the coded and evil tactics Mr. Paul Adom-Otchere boastfully and unashamedly told the world on ‘Good Evening Ghana’, that you employ to deal with your real and perceived enemies.”

Speaking to the media at the National Youth Conference on natural resources and environmental governance, Mr. Jinapor advised that, government and stakeholders need to remain focused, despite the setbacks that may come and avoid apportioning blame in order to succeed in the fight against illegal mining and other environmental malpractices.

“On May 2, I am leading the Forestry Commission to brief the country on the state of forest reserves in Ghana and give a full update on the state of our forest reserves. Some of the measures that we are putting into place will have to continue, there will be setbacks but the most important in this matter as history has taught us, is for us to be focused.”

Samuel Abu Jinapor

He further encouraged the youth to show interest in environmental governance.
