Malik Basintale, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) Deputy National Communications Officer, has lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its subpar performance in the Assin North by-election.

According to Mr. Basintale, the NDC had a better message and wiser leadership, whereas the NPP lacked a suitable message to win the election. He asserted that the NDC won the seat because it had electoral experience.

According to the NDC’s Deputy National Communications Officer, anyone who understands how elections are won will demonstrate that there are several criteria according to which each election is won. Additionally, he said that the NPP does not comprehend how elections are won because it does not comprehend elections or the country’s electoral procedures.

“We did a good campaign; we had a superior message to that of the NPP. We had a good track record…we had a strategy, we knew what we were talking about, and we had a clear strategy for the Assin North by-election. If it were about sharing of goodies, NDC wouldn’t have got even 1 percent of the votes.

“They do not understand how to genuinely go into an election, identify the location of the election, and determine what strategy to use in that particular jurisdiction. I knew they were on a wrong spear; I knew they had misfired; I knew they were going to lose woefully. I knew they were going to waste state resources.”

Malik Basintale also urged NPP to avoid purchasing votes in future elections. He however questioned why people felt the need to equalize their crimes. He asserted that he overheard individuals making valiant attempts to implicate the NDC in the sharing of funds and denied such claims.

“At the end of the day, they are going to go back to their drawing boards, crying and accusing each other and then blame themselves for their own negligence of electoral processes in this country. I can confidently say NDC didn’t share money. NPP shared lots of money and other logistics, but we still turned out victorious because we know how to win elections in the Assin North constituency.”

Additionally, Mr. Kofi Bentil, Vice President of Imani Africa, also stated that because Ghana’s democracy is strong, and as such an opposition party could win a by-election.

In response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the Tuesday, June 27 by-election in Assin North, he declared, “In a sound democracy, the opposition is able to win by-elections. Well done NDC! #ProudToBeGhanaian. Now can somebody stop that shameful prosecution, it never should have started !!”

Ghana Needs Change And Only NDC Can Provide

Likewise, George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), commenting on the Assin North win, asserts that the NDC would also win the general elections in 2024.

He believes that Ghanaians need a new government, and he believes that the NDC will make sure that happens during the upcoming general elections.

“We know the 2024 election will be difficult…We are happy about the Assin North win. We can’t fail the good people of this country; we need a change and NDC will provide that.”
