Cecilia Dapaah’s Case: Freezing Dapaah’s Cedi And Dollar Accounts Cause For Celebration- Kpebu

Minority Calls For The Dismissal Of Cecilia Dapaah

Cecilia Dapaah

Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has stated that the freezing of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah’s Cedi and Dollar accounts should be a cause for jubilation.

He noted that the freezing of accounts could be an excellent starting point for the authorities to reclaim funds obtained through illegal and corrupt ways. According to him, rumors of this development reached him in the early hours of Wednesday, and he was ecstatic when it was later confirmed by numerous news outlets.

“The freezing is super-duper because of this current situation and the money involved. There were whispers of it in town following the search of the former Minister’s house. What I am hearing is that they have found $5 million in her account and found GH¢40 million in another.”

Martin Kpebu

Kpebu further stated that it would be in the former Minister’s best interests to publicly explain to Ghanaians how she obtained the funds, as it is widely assumed that the funds are the results of corruption.

“It will be interesting for her to come and tell us what she did to get all those monies and of course, the Ghana Revenue Authority will also come in for her to explain how she got those monies. And this will also bring eggs on President Akufo-Addo’s face, who keeps saying he is against corruption.

“Though we have to wait for investigations to unravel the facts, I believe that the monies they have discovered in her accounts are likely proceeds of corruption. Rumours of her owning restaurants, cosmetic companies, and other hosts of companies may be palpable lies.”

Cecilia Dapaah’s Cedi And Dollar Accounts Frozen By OSP

Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah’s problems are far from over, following the scandal involving large quantities of money allegedly stolen by her house helps at her Accra residence.

The former Minister’s Cedi and Dollar accounts are said to have been frozen by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), pending further investigations.

According to sources, the OSP filed a motion to confirm the confiscated money that the office collected from Madam Dapaah’s apartment, as well as the blocked bank accounts.

Following the discovery that Madam Dapaah was keeping more than $1 million in her home, the OSP is investigating her for corruption and corruption-related offenses. This comes while the police and the Attorney General are prosecuting those accused of stealing money from the minister’s house.

Madam Dapaah made headlines in July 2023, when it was revealed that her housekeepers had been dragged to court for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000, several millions of Cedis, and personal stuff valued in thousands of Ghana Cedis and dollars.

Following a widespread outcry, Cecilia Dapaah resigned from her post. She was arrested by the OSP and eventually released on bail.

However, a Circuit Court in Accra recently remanded five of the accused in the Cecilia Dapaah case and granted bail to two lactating mothers in the amount of GHC1 million each, with three sureties to be justified.

Mr. Kwaku Botwe, the father of one of the househelps accused of stealing money and other valuables from former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Dapaah, has also been discharged in a revised charge sheet as the Attorney-General takes over the case.
