Alleged Minors Registering as a Voter

The Director of IT and Elections for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of facilitating the registration of minors in the Ashanti region in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The opposition party’s National Office, in a scathing critique, vehemently accused the ruling party of allegedly collaborating with certain unscrupulous officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana to illegally register minors for the upcoming elections.

“Criminal and crooked NPP collaborating with SOME criminally minded officials to register minors in the Ashanti region”.

Dr. Boamah, while underscoring the critical nature of the development, highlighted the danger such conduct posed for the integrity of the country’s electoral process.

Perceived Misuse of GhanaCard

The former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration particularly expressed concerns over the perceived misuse of the National Identification Card, the GhanaCard in the alleged registration of minors in the Ashanti Region.

He strongly asserted that a minor with a National Identification Card (GhanaCard) is not an adult, and hence is not eligible to be registered by the Electoral Commission of Ghana as a voter.

Dr Omane Boamah further urged the National Identification Authority (NIA) to explain how such minors got voting-age-appropriate National Identification Cards (Ghanacards) that falsely indicated they are of legal voting age.

Touting the opposition National Democratic Congress’s commitment to ensure a free and fair electoral process, Dr Omane Boamah assured the public that the opposition party is vigilant and determined to uphold the rules and regulations governing the country’s electoral processes.

He emphasized that with a very sophisticated and reliable system, the National Democratic Congress will continue to expose and prevent any conduct that appears to undermine the sanctity of the country’s electoral processes.

Dr Omane Boamah also recounted that the opposition party has been closely monitoring the alleged registration of minors in the Ashanti Region and is prepared to take necessary action to prevent any illegal registrations from impacting the election results.

“And trust that during the Exhibition, we shall fish out all such minors who slipped through and got registered: the perpetrators will certainly receive their punishment soon”.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’s Director of IT and Elections in addition affirmed the opposition party’s strong commitment to ensuring that no ineligible voters cast ballots in the December 7 general elections.

He concluded his remarks by calling on Ghanaians to vote former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’s presidential  candidate for the 2024 general elections.

Dr Omane Boamah underscored former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for job creation through the “24-hour economy initiative as a transformative policy that would change the country’s economic fortunes,

He added that through the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy, former President John Dramani Mahama and the next National Democratic Congress administration will provide well-paying jobs for the teeming unemployed Ghanaians.
