In a recent address to a gathering in Hamile, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their persistent skepticism regarding government initiatives.

Dr. Bawumia’s comments reflect growing frustration within the NPP over the opposition’s continual doubts and dismissals of proposed policies, particularly the recently announced credit scoring system. Bawumia expressed his exasperation with the NDC’s habitual negativity.

“When we say we want to do anything, they always say it is not possible,” Dr. Bawumia remarked, pointing to the opposition’s consistent pattern of disbelief. This criticism comes in the wake of the NPP administration’s announcement of a new credit scoring system designed to ease financial burdens on Ghanaians.

The Vice President elaborated on the significant impact the credit scoring system would have on the lives of ordinary citizens. He highlighted how the system mirrors those in developed countries, enabling citizens to purchase essential items on credit.

“In developed countries, like the UK, Germany, Japan, and the United States, workers buy most things on credit. You buy a fridge, you buy a television, you buy a car, you buy a mobile phone… But in Ghana, you have to pay it all.”

By allowing Ghanaians to purchase items in manageable installments, the new system aims to modernize the financial landscape in the country.

“Ghana has reached a stage where we are going to introduce a credit scoring system that allows our workers to also pay small, small, small until they get it,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Addressing NDC’s Skepticism

Acknowledging the skepticism from the NDC, Dr. Bawumia assured the public of the government’s determination to implement the credit system. He suggested that the opposition lacks understanding of such innovative financial mechanisms.

Dr. Bawumia also predicted that the NDC might later try to claim credit for the initiative, a pattern he suggests has occurred with other government programs.

“Very soon when the system starts working, you can be sure that the NDC will start to claim that it is they who introduced the system. Just like they are claiming it is they who introduced free senior high school education.”

Emphasizing the broad benefits of the new credit system, Dr. Bawumia noted that it would enable various professionals to acquire the necessary equipment and pay for them gradually.

“Our tailors can get machines and pay small, small, small until everybody is satisfied. This is the new Ghana we are going to. We are building a credit system in Ghana.”

Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to remain optimistic and dismiss naysayers who doubt the feasibility of the new system. He emphasized the transformative potential of the credit scoring system for Ghana’s economy and the quality of life for its citizens.

“By the grace of God, everybody is going to enjoy this new credit system,” Dr. Bawumia concluded.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s address highlights the NPP’s commitment to innovation and progress despite opposition from the NDC. The proposed credit scoring system is envisioned as a major step forward for Ghana, enabling citizens to manage their finances more effectively and purchase essential goods on credit.

The NPP remains steadfast in its vision for a modernized Ghana, urging the public to stay hopeful and supportive of new initiatives aimed at improving the nation’s economic landscape.
