The member of the NPP Communications team Dr. Akua Amoako, has addressed the state of public security in Ghana, specifically focusing on a recent broad daylight robbery incident that highlighted the challenges and improvements in the country’s law enforcement.

Dr. Amoako praised the government’s ongoing investment in the Ghana Police Service, crediting these efforts for a noticeable increase in law enforcement efficiency and public safety. In reference to the armed robbery incident that happened at Adabraka, Dr. Amoako lamented;

“Live gunshots, broad daylight—that shows a lot of confidence and [hubris] on the part of the robbers. They didn’t mind who saw. They didn’t mind who was recording.”

“What I found interesting after all of this was that, the efforts that this government has put in so far into the Ghana police to enhance their activities have been paying off.”

A significant aspect of this improvement is using social media and surveillance to gather evidence.

“We saw CCTV footage from the cameras that we have on strategic points along the road that was able to capture the vehicle used in the robbery.’’

Concrete Results Through Enhanced Resources

Dr. Amoako confidently described how these resources help the police track down criminals effectively.

“I’m quite confident that now at least they have leads because before, when there were no cameras, the police would have had to rely heavily on eyewitness testimony.”

This assurance underscores her belief that technological advancements strengthen the police’s ability to solve crimes and deter potential offenders.

Dr. Amoako cited a specific example, describing an earlier incident where a vehicle had been involved in a robbery. She emphasized; It was the car that was robbed. But it was a Highlander, the older model.”

“We’ve increased their numbers by over 40%. We’ve set up emergency command centers… and we are committing to install a further 50,000 more cameras so that the police have eyes everywhere.”

Dr. Amoako elaborated, detailing how such provisions enhance law enforcement’s reach and response capabilities.

Improving Police Infrastructure for Effective Policing

“There’s always more that you can do. But it is very obvious that when you resource the police, you give them the tools they need to do their job.

We are committed to continue to invest in the police, to recruit more, to make sure that their training is more efficient because we’ve also improved a lot of that.’’

The establishment of additional police divisions and increased foreign assistance for training reflects a broader strategy to equip Ghana’s police with global best practices.

A Call for Continued Leadership

Finally, Dr. Amoako urged Ghanaians to support the NPP in the upcoming elections, citing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership as instrumental in driving these advancements. She expressed confidence in his approach.

Dr. Amoako concluded with a powerful endorsement, stating, “The choice is just one. It’s number one and nothing else is. Number one for progress, number one for development, number one for security.” Dr. Amoako, message highlighted the role of leadership in driving public safety improvements and underscored the importance of sustained investment in law enforcement for a safer Ghana.
