The Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye has touted the NDC’s Superior campaign strategy over its compatriots.

He assessed the 2024 election results and the strategies that made the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge victoriously.

Speaking on the post-election analysis, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye began with greetings.

“Let me say this. Let me also take the opportunity to say good morning to our viewers especially the people in my constituency and, of course, to the whole country, especially Great Accra and the Ashanti Region. I thank them so much.”

“The NDC worked harder. It’s clear. We were able to break barriers, and get to places we’ve never been before – nobody needed anyone to push him, to incentivize him, to encourage him to be on the ground.

“We put our differences behind us. We didn’t look at what we’re getting as individuals. We just focused on making Mahama president.”

Contrasting the NDC’s robust campaign from the NPP, Hon. Vanderpuye described;

“On the ground, I didn’t see the NPP. In all the regions we went to, I didn’t see the NPP [spirit] that I saw in 96, 2000, 2004, and 2008, 2016, were absent on the ground. They were overwhelmed.

“I met NPP people, who were reluctant to wear their T-shirts to campaign because they couldn’t stand the harassment, the insults from people when they go around.”

Hon. Vanderpuye linked the NPP’s poor performance to the economic dissatisfaction among Ghanaians.

“The reason why they lost elections was exactly what Otumfuo said to Nana Addo at the beginning of his tenure that the people voted in consideration of their anger and their dissatisfaction with the economy.”

He explained how economic challenges led to voter apathy within the NPP. He emphasized;

“Look, if your party people, through analysis, do not vote, it’s a vote of no confidence in you. They are not happy with the way you have managed things. They wouldn’t want to go to the polls and possibly vote for the opponent. Abstention is a vote of no confidence, it’s a rejection, whether you like it or not.

“What was the message of the NPP in these elections? Free SHS. So, when people began to analyze and look at Free SHS… they came to realize that the so-called Free SHS is rather hurting them more than benefiting them. Before Free SHS, all that the parents spent on the child in the boarding house was 420 cedis. With the introduction of Free SHS, your child comes to stay home, and you end up spending over 1,200 cedis on the child.”

He also noted feedback from students who benefited from the policy but faced significant challenges:

“Nine out of the 12 [students] all related to the challenges, the difficulties of the Free SHS – they said, ‘Talk to us, and we’ll tell you what we went through.”

Campaign Experiences in Kumasi

Hon. Vanderpuye shared a telling anecdote from Kumasi, traditionally an NPP stronghold, where he observed a significant decline in visible support for the ruling party.

“They started dropping their T-shirts on the table, and people were taking it and throwing it back at them. That should tell you something.”

Hon. Vanderpuye observed that incumbents often face challenges at the end of their tenure. He emphasized;

“It happened to the NDC in 2000. It happened in 2008. It happened in 2016, and it’s happened in 2024. When it comes to the cycle, no matter what you do, you will suffer some apathy.”

Hon. Vanderpuye concluded by urging political parties to learn from voter feedback and align their strategies with the electorate’s needs.

His remarks highlighted the critical role of hard work, unity, and responsiveness in securing electoral victories.

This detailed report provides insights into Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye’s perspective on the NDC’s 2024 campaign success and the NPP’s shortcomings.
