Truss Calls for Media Reform to Fix the Nation

Liz Truss

Liz Truss, the former Prime Minister known for her short stint in Downing Street and vocal advocacy for free speech, has declared that the United Kingdom will falter unless its media outlets are “fixed.” In a recent interview, Truss criticized British media for concentrating on trivial matters rather than pressing national issues.

Truss, a self-proclaimed “big supporter” of Elon Musk, expressed her dissatisfaction with the current state of the UK media landscape. “We have got a massive problem with the British media,” Truss stated.

“They don’t focus on the important issues, whether it’s the grooming gangs that they have failed to hold bureaucrats and police officers to account on, or the debt crisis that we now have in our country with the highest levels of borrowing since the 1990s. They’re focused on ludicrous stories about MPs, when MPs are simply doing their job. That is a massive problem, and the country will not be fixed until they get fixed.”

While Truss did not detail specific strategies for overhauling the media, her critique followed questions about her past lobbying for a constituent interested in exporting landmine disposal equipment to China. This lobbying occurred at a time when she publicly advocated for categorizing China as a national security threat.

Truss accused the left-leaning media of misrepresenting individuals and their policies if they disagreed with them. She claimed these media organizations oppose free speech and market policies. “There’s a deliberate misinterpretation of what people do if they don’t like that person and their policies,” she said.

“And the leftwing media of Britain, including the BBC, The Times, The Guardian, and the Financial Times do not like free speech, free market policies, and they don’t like the status quo in this country being challenged, and I will continue to take them on.”

Truss’s remarks are part of her promotional campaign for her new book, Ten Years to Save the West, which explores themes of political and societal reform.

Criticism of Labour Party and Praise for Elon Musk

In the same interview, Truss accused the Labour Party of being “beholden” to China and Islamism. She commended Elon Musk for using his social media platform, X, to bring attention to historical child abuse cases in the UK, which she believes have been inadequately covered by British media.

“What he is doing is he’s bringing attention to the grooming gang scandal, where majority Pakistanis have been targeting and raping young girls across Britain, which is an outrage,” she said.

“He’s been drawing attention to the failings of Keir Starmer. He’s been talking about free speech, which is very important, and as we know from China, if you don’t have free speech, you can’t have a free society.”

Liz Truss

Truss, who previously suggested that the Conservative Party should collaborate with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, indicated that British politics needed innovation. “I want to see Reform work with the Conservative Party or elements of the Conservative Party that want real change in this country,” she added.

A Labour spokesperson dismissed Truss’s assertions, pointing to the economic fallout from her brief leadership. “The Conservative Party under Liz Truss crashed the economy – which sent people’s mortgages rocketing,” they stated.

“Rather than concocting tall tales about ‘the deep state,’ Liz Truss should show some humility and apologize to the public for her disastrous time as prime minister, which has left working people footing the bill.”

As such, Truss’s statements and her book launch have reignited debates about media responsibility, political accountability, and the broader challenges facing the UK.
