The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (Ag. CEO).

He takes over from Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa, who has been reassigned to GOIL as Managing Director and Group CEO.

Mr. Amoah, a seasoned energy professional with extensive experience in both national and international energy sectors, steps into his new role at a critical juncture for GNPC and Ghana’s oil and gas industry.

Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah is no stranger to the energy sector, having held several key leadership roles over the years. His most recent position was as Deputy Chief Executive of GNPC, where he contributed to the corporation’s strategic direction and growth.

Amoah’s career trajectory also includes an advisory role to the Minister of Energy, where he served as Director of Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy, positioning him as a significant figure in the development of Ghana’s petroleum policies.

In addition to his domestic roles, Mr. Amoah has earned a reputation for his work on the international stage.

He has served as Chairman and Member of various national and international boards, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to bear in these positions.

His involvement in the global energy industry and policy-making processes has contributed to Ghana’s increasing presence on the world oil and gas map.

Amoah’s leadership has already been felt at GNPC, where his strategic efforts have helped secure substantial investments for the country’s oil and gas projects.

One of his most notable achievements was his instrumental role in securing approximately US$7 billion in investment for the Sankofa Oil and Gas Development Project.

His tenure as Deputy CEO of GNPC allowed him to oversee the development of key strategic initiatives that aimed to expand Ghana’s oil and gas sector, improve national energy security, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

His efforts were also instrumental in attracting investment for exploration successes, which laid the foundation for Ghana’s commercial oil production in the early 2000s.

These milestones have significantly impacted the nation’s energy landscape, contributing to the country’s increasing energy independence.

The appointment of Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah as the Acting CEO marks a new chapter in the history of GNPC.

The corporation, which was established under the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1983 and the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act of 2016, is tasked with overseeing the exploration, production, and commercialization of Ghana’s petroleum resources.

GNPC’s mission is to enhance the country’s position as a major player in the global oil and gas industry while ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas resources are equitably distributed among the people of Ghana.

The vision of GNPC is to become a leading global oil and gas company with a significant positive impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

Under Mr. Amoah’s leadership, GNPC is expected to continue expanding its role in Ghana’s energy sector, with a focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and strategic partnerships.

Mr. Amoah’s past experience in securing foreign investments and his success in international arbitration make him well-positioned to further the corporation’s strategic goals.

The GNPC board has expressed confidence that Mr. Amoah’s extensive experience, both locally and internationally, will guide the corporation toward continued growth and success.

“GNPC extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Amoah on his appointment and looks forward to his leadership in advancing the Corporation’s strategic vision.

“We are confident his expertise and dedication will drive GNPC’s continued growth and success.”

As Ghana continues to assert itself as a key player in the global oil and gas industry, Amoah’s leadership will be crucial in realizing the country’s energy vision and ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas are fully realized for the people of Ghana.
