Five-Man Accra Robbery Gang Convicted and Jailed

A coordinated series of covert operations by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has led to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of a five-member robbery gang responsible for two violent crimes committed within the Greater Accra Region in 2025.

The Police said the gang carried out armed attacks on 11th May and 5th February this year at Dome and ACP Junction respectively, terrorising their victims and making away with electronics, cash, and personal belongings.

The first of the two incidents occurred in the early hours of 11th May 2025 when two men – Isaac Agbezudor, 20, alias “Money Man”, and Justice Akwasi Sarfo Oppong, 19, alias “Gariba Manta” or “Demon” – stormed the Jos Bakery Head Office at Dome.

Both men were armed and rode an unlicensed motorbike. Police said they fired a locally manufactured pistol into the air to intimidate bakery staff before stealing a Tecno Pop 8 phone worth GHS 1,500 and a handbag filled with personal effects.

Isaac Agbezudor was arrested three days later on 14th May through a covert intelligence-led operation. Following intense interrogation, he confessed to the crime, assisted investigators in recovering the unregistered motorbike and the clothes used during the robbery, and identified his accomplice.

Based on this lead, Police arrested Gariba Manta at a mining site between Osino and Saaman on 22nd May. He then led the authorities to a hideout at Sonitra, Amasaman, where officers retrieved the pistol and live ammunition used in the Dome incident.

“Both suspects were processed for court. Isaac Agbezudor was convicted on his plea and sentenced by the Kwabenya Circuit Court to 10 years’ imprisonment on two counts, to run concurrently. Gariba Manta was also convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment”

Further investigations uncovered that Gariba Manta was also involved in a separate armed robbery attack at ACP Junction, near Kwabenya, on 5th February 2025. In that incident, he worked with three accomplices identified as Bright Alikor, 21, alias “Zaamani”; Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, 23, alias “Chameleon”; and Prince Owusu, 19, alias “Check Boy”.

The four attacked a female victim using scissors and a knife, making away with an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a Samsung tablet, and GH₵6,000 in cash. The victim suffered knife wounds during the robbery.

The three accomplices were later apprehended by police through targeted covert operations. After standing trial at the Kwabenya Circuit Court, each of them was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Police added, “In a related development, Police are pursuing a suspect in Koforidua who allegedly purchased the stolen iPhone 11 Pro Max.”

Commending the efforts of law enforcement operatives, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command praised the swift and coordinated approach that led to the successful convictions. In a signed release, the Regional Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, stated,

“The Accra Regional Police Command commends the dedication of its intelligence and operations teams for their swift actions in arresting and securing convictions against all five suspects”

She also encouraged continued public cooperation with law enforcement, urging members of the public to contribute credible information to aid anti-crime operations.

“The Police continue to urge the public to provide credible information to support ongoing efforts to fight crime. The Command assures the public, especially informants, of utmost safety and confidentiality in all engagements”

The arrest and jailing of the five-member gang highlights the growing use of covert intelligence strategies in combating organised urban crime. Police in the region say they remain committed to making communities more secure, relying not just on internal vigilance but also on public support and collaboration.

The bust comes as the Ghana Police Service intensifies its clampdown on criminal gangs across urban centres in response to rising security concerns. It also reflects the force’s broader operational shift towards pre-emptive arrests and speedy prosecution, following increased public demand for safety and justice.
