DJ Obi Defends Burna Boy’s True Character

DJ Obi

Nigerian disc jockey DJ Obi has offered a form of defence for Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy against criticisms of his online persona.

DJ Obi described Burna as a “blessing” and a “great person” when he is met in person.

“Burna enjoys the attention and the drama online,” DJ Obi noted, “but people don’t really get to see who he truly is behind the scenes.”

He explained that the public misunderstands Burna Boy because they only see one side of him, his online persona.

“Rightfully done, now I’ll just speak my mind. You feel me? So I’ll pass the mic to Burna. I feel like he doesn’t get the opportunity to show himself. Burna is such a blessing, and people misunderstand that. He’s just a man who knows what he wants. You feel me? He’s not going to budge for anybody.

“So don’t disrespect him. He’s not going to disrespect you. To everybody that’s close to him in his life, he’s a huge blessing.”

Recounting his experiences from personal interactions with the singer, DJ Obi said Burna is a genuine and kind person, saying that side of him is rarely visible to the public.

He also admitted that the singer actually does enjoy showing that controversial side of himself.

“You understand what I’m saying? So I feel like people don’t get to see that. And I feel like sometimes when he gets to talk, people only ask questions that trigger him to show that side of himself, to show that Burna Boy that is popping off, and all of that. And he enjoys it, to a large extent.

“He enjoys online with Twitter, with the tweets and all the exes. I don’t know what they call it now, but he enjoys all that stuff. But I feel like he’s one of the best things in my life because when I get that one-on-one time with him and I see him for that many, or I see him for who he really is, it’s like, he’s a great person.”

DJ Obi

DJ Obi emphasized that having Burna Boy is a blessing and that “not everybody can experience him like that.”

“But I just feel like, to some level, because he has never been able to talk like this fully, not necessarily talk about himself as Burna Boy and like African giant and the colonizers and all that. He’s actually a great guy.”

Burna Boy on Perseverance Despite Having Reasons to Give Up

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has credited his sustained success in the music industry to his unwavering resilience.

The music star explained that he has persevered despite having many reasons to give up on life.

He stated this while discussing the inspiration behind his upcoming album, No Sign of Weakness.

“I have had the most reasons to not exist anymore, but I have shown no sign of weakness.

“That’s what this album is saying; through everything, no sign of weakness will be shown. That is what I want everyone coming after me to do, show no sign of weakness,” he said.

Burna Boy’s eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, via Atlantic Records, Spaceship, and Bad Habit.

The journey of an artist is often fraught with challenges that deter even the most passionate individuals from pursuing their dreams.

However, it is through perseverance that artists not only survive but also flourish. The stories of Vincent van Gogh, J.K. Rowling, Frida Kahlo, and many others remind artists that the path of creativity is rarely straightforward.

Instead, it is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience. By embracing their struggles and channeling them into their work, artists not only enrich their own lives but also inspire countless others to pursue their passions, regardless of the obstacles they face.
