Ghana Set to Host Africa Oil Week 2025

Ghana is preparing to take centre stage in Africa’s energy transformation as it readies to host the highly anticipated Africa Oil Week (AOW): Investing in African Energy 2025 summit in Accra.

The event, set for September 15–18, 2025, is expected to catalyse economic growth, attract vital investment, and reshape strategic dialogue in the continent’s energy sector. For Ghana, it marks not just a hosting opportunity but a declaration of intent to be a regional energy powerhouse.

In a recent meeting between AOW officials and Kwame Ntow Amoah, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), both parties outlined shared priorities for ensuring the success of the summit.

According to Mr. Amoah, the timing of AOW: Energy could not be more critical for Ghana, as the country enters a new chapter of energy-led industrialisation. “We are thrilled to host AOW:Energy this September in Ghana,” Mr. Amoah affirmed.

“This summit arrives at a crucial moment for our nation and the region, as we step into a new era of energy-driven growth.

“We are confident that AOW: Energy will open the door to new partnerships, investments, and policy breakthroughs that will strengthen our economy.”

The 2025 edition of Africa Oil Week aligns with Ghana’s broader vision of economic recovery and transformation.

Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the government has prioritised the development of a 24-hour economy a strategy that hinges on a stable and sustainable energy supply.

Natural resources, especially oil and gas, are expected to form the bedrock of this new economic framework, with AOW:Energy playing a pivotal role in facilitating capital inflows and sectoral reforms.

AOW:Energy 2025 will not only provide a platform for dialogue but also serve as a springboard for investment in infrastructure and innovation.

The summit will bring together global energy leaders, investors, national oil companies, and policymakers to chart the future of African energy through discussions on regulatory reform, financing strategies, and cutting-edge technologies.

This year also coincides with two major milestones in Ghana’s energy history: GNPC’s 40th anniversary and the 15th year of production at the Jubilee Field.

These anniversaries highlight the country’s long-standing efforts in oil and gas development and underscore its capacity to manage complex energy assets.

Mr. Amoah reflected on this progress, noting that Ghana’s energy sector is now positioned to leverage deeper exploration and expansion opportunities.

“Ghana’s energy sector has come a long way, and we are excited to see the next chapter unfold.

“AOW: Energy 2025 will be instrumental in unlocking new potential in the energy sector, particularly with exciting opportunities like the Keta Basin and Voltaian Basin, which are expected to bring fresh prospects for energy development.”

Beyond domestic ambitions, the summit is also a strategic move to anchor Ghana as a hub for regional energy cooperation.

By hosting AOW: Energy, Ghana aims to build bridges across West Africa and foster a more integrated energy market, encouraging collaboration among neighbouring countries and strengthening energy security in the sub-region.

Representatives from AOW: Energy echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the partnership with GNPC is rooted in a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.

AOW: Energy 2025 will feature high-level forums, policy roundtables, and technology showcases designed to drive new investment and promote shared solutions.

With support from key African institutions such as the African Union, APPO, NUPRC, and AFRIPERF, the summit is expected to produce actionable outcomes that will reverberate well beyond the four-day event.

As preparations intensify, Ghana is not just preparing to host a conference—it is stepping forward as a leader in the conversation around Africa’s energy future. The stakes are high, but so are the opportunities.

By bringing the continent’s most influential energy stakeholders together in Accra, AOW: Energy 2025 promises to be more than a dialogue, it will be a launchpad for the next phase of Ghana’s and Africa’s energy evolution.

From policy frameworks to infrastructure deals, the summit is expected to chart a bold new course for powering economies, lifting communities, and securing a resilient, prosperous energy future.
