MobileMoney LTD Launches “Shine Your Eye” Campaign to Tackle MoMo Fraud

MobileMoney LTD has reaffirmed its commitment to customer safety with the launch of a nationwide Trust Campaign dubbed “Shine Your Eye.”

The campaign comes at a time when mobile money fraud has become a growing concern, with fraudsters deploying sophisticated tactics to exploit unsuspecting users. Through this initiative, MobileMoney LTD seeks to promote vigilance among customers, reassure them of the safety of their funds, and empower them with knowledge to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

The “Shine Your Eye” campaign is designed not only to raise awareness but also to strengthen trust in the MoMo platform as a reliable and secure financial service. Mobile money has been a critical driver of financial inclusion in Ghana, and this initiative highlights the company’s proactive steps to ensure that customer confidence remains strong.

The campaign highlights a number of measures MobileMoney LTD has already introduced to enhance customer security on the MoMo platform. These include biometric logins, easier PIN resets, self-initiated reversals of erroneous transactions, and the establishment of a dedicated fraud support team. Each of these features is intended to give customers greater control and confidence in their use of mobile money services.

By introducing these technological innovations alongside awareness campaigns, MobileMoney LTD is demonstrating a two-pronged approach—protecting customers through both system-level improvements and behavioral education.

To maximize impact, the “Shine Your Eye” campaign is being executed through multiple channels. Commercials are being aired on television, radio, print, and online platforms, while social media is being used to extend the conversation to the digital space. However, the initiative goes beyond mass media outreach. MobileMoney LTD is also engaging directly with customers in communities, streets, markets, and transport yards.

Using drama skits, music, dance, and educational materials, the company is delivering messages in relatable formats that resonate with ordinary Ghanaians. The campaign’s catchphrase, “Shine your Eye,” has quickly become a call to action, urging people to remain vigilant and alert in the fight against MoMo fraud and social engineering tactics.

Building Trust Through Engagement

Commenting on the campaign, the Chief Commercial and Operations Officer of MobileMoney LTD, Abdul Razak Issaka Ali, stressed that customer trust is central to the company’s mission.

“At the heart of our business is customer trust. This campaign is about giving our customers peace of mind, that MoMo is not only convenient but also safe. We are engaging them directly to listen to their concerns and speak to them in a language that they understand and can relate to.”

Mr. Ali further noted that MobileMoney LTD is collaborating closely with security agencies to track and clamp down on fraudsters. This, he emphasized, reflects the company’s determination to ensure that mobile money remains a secure and trustworthy financial service for all.

As part of the campaign, Mr. Ali emphasized the importance of customer awareness in preventing fraud.

“We continue to advise our customers not to disclose their MoMo PIN or One Time Password (OTP) to anyone under any circumstances, not even to persons claiming to be staff from MoMo or MTN. Customers should not allow anyone to make MoMo transactions on their behalf, and most importantly, they should not entertain calls or text messages requesting them to click on a link to participate in a promotion.”

He noted that such tactics are commonly used by fraudsters to manipulate customers into compromising their accounts, leading to the loss of funds. By reiterating these safety messages through the “Shine Your Eye” campaign, MobileMoney LTD is reinforcing the importance of individual responsibility in combating fraud.

Reporting Fraud and Protecting Customers

MobileMoney LTD has also strengthened its fraud-reporting channels to encourage customer participation in the fight against fraud. Customers are urged to report suspicious activities by emailing [email protected], using the MoMo App, or calling the service center on 100. These efforts have yielded results over the years, including the blacklisting of several suspected agents and phone numbers linked to fraudulent activities.

The “Shine Your Eye” campaign underscores MobileMoney LTD’s commitment to safeguarding the gains made in driving financial inclusion across Ghana. By combining technological safeguards, customer education, and direct community engagement, the company is working to ensure that mobile money remains both safe and accessible.
