Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Chinese investors that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, their investments in Ghana are safe, well-protected, and guaranteed to thrive.

He gave this assurance while addressing participants at the Presidential Investment Forum held in Beijing, China, where he underscored President Mahama’s commitment to strengthening Ghana–China relations and deepening economic cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking to a gathering of business leaders, policymakers, and development partners, Hon. Ablakwa praised President Mahama’s visionary leadership, describing him as a “dynamic, patriotic, and problem-solving President” who has shown exceptional commitment to transforming Ghana’s economy and advancing all sectors of national development.

“The GIPC Boss delivered a snapshot of what Ghana has to offer in the 16 regions of Ghana, but he left out one important matter. And that matter he left out is that in addition to all of what God has blessed us with in the 16 regions of Ghana, God has also blessed us with a visionary President, a dynamic President, a patriotic President, and a problem solver. No other person than His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.”

Hon. Ablakwa emphasized that since assuming office, President Mahama has been methodically addressing the numerous challenges he inherited.

“You can see that since assuming the presidency, he’s fixing all the problems he inherited. He’s fixed the economy. He will give you the details of that. He’s fixed education. He’s fixed healthcare. He’s fixing infrastructure. And only a few days ago, he also fixed our football — Ghana has qualified for the World Cup.”

According to him, President Mahama’s governance style is marked by competence, attention to detail, and a strong sense of national purpose. “The visionary, problem-solving President John Mahama is not sparing any sector of national development. His extreme competence, his attention to detail, his love for country, and his dexterity have been brought to bear in all aspects of our national development,” Hon. Ablakwa noted.

President XI Jinping’s Confirmation

He further revealed that earlier in the day, President Mahama had met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a meeting that he said reaffirmed mutual trust and partnership between the two countries.

“This morning, President Mahama met with his counterpart, President Xi Jinping. And those of us who were in that meeting, President Xi made a profound statement. President Xi said that in President Mahama, he can trust him to protect all legitimate Chinese businesses”.

He added that President Xi’s expression of trust was not only a diplomatic endorsement but also a strong signal of China’s confidence in Ghana’s leadership and investment climate.

“President Xi has given you the assurance. Your own President and undoubtedly the leader of the Global South has stamped his approval that you can invest in Ghana and your investment will be safe because he can trust his brother to protect all legitimate businesses, all genuine businesses in Ghana”.

65 Years of Formal Ghana–China Diplomatic Relations

Highlighting the significance of the forum, Hon. Ablakwa reminded investors that the year marks the 65th anniversary of formal Ghana–China diplomatic relations—a partnership that has grown stronger over the decades through trade, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges.

“This year is a very significant year in our bilateral relations. We are marking 65 years of formal Ghana-China diplomatic relations. And when you talk to all Africans, they will tell you there is only one door to Africa — the gateway to Africa is Ghana”.

He encouraged Chinese businesses to consider Ghana as their primary destination for trade and investment on the continent, emphasizing the country’s political stability, open business environment, and strategic location.

“In the people-to-people exchange, business-to-business exchange for 2026, you must all begin in the Republic of Ghana,” he urged. Hon. Ablakwa also reaffirmed that China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade volumes reaching $11.8 billion.

“Since the first contract was signed between the Government of Ghana and a Chinese company in 1983, Chinese companies have not regretted. Our relations have deepened and flourished, and you can be assured that President Mahama will protect your investments.

“Ghanaian law will protect your investments, and the Ghanaian people will welcome you to our beautiful republic, the headquarters of Pan-Africanism, and the most warm and embracing nation you can find anywhere in the world”.

The Minister assured Chinese investors of continued support and facilitation through Ghana’s diplomatic missions across China, adding that Ghana’s embassy in Beijing and consulate in Guangzhou, honorary consuls in Hong Kong and Macau are available to serve every investor that chooses the country.

“All our officials are ready to serve you, to facilitate your travel, and to make sure that you can visit Ghana,” he announced, introducing Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, whom he described as “an entrepreneur extraordinaire,” appointed by President Mahama to drive economic diplomacy and strengthen trade relations.

Hon. Ablakwa concluded by reminding investors that Ghana’s appeal goes beyond its national borders. “When you invest in Ghana, you are not only investing in Ghana; you are investing in Africa, which, according to recent statistics, has a market of 1.5 billion people,” he said.

He added that President Mahama’s role as the African Union’s Champion of Financial Institutions ensures that investments made in Ghana will benefit from the broader framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), providing access to markets across the continent.

With a renewed sense of purpose in Ghana–China relations and a strong assurance from both President Xi Jinping and President Mahama, investors were urged to deepen their engagement with Ghana, confident that their investments would be protected under a visionary leadership committed to partnership, prosperity, and sustainable development.
