The Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Gariballa Khidir Ali, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to seek Ghana’s support amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
During the meeting, the ambassador expressed his appreciation for Ghana’s enduring legacy as a shining example of democratic governance and peaceful coexistence in Africa.
He commended the nation’s commitment to upholding democratic values, fostering stability, and promoting regional harmony, noting that Ghana’s leadership continues to inspire hope and progress across the continent.
He highlighted that in challenging and unpredictable times, Ghana reliably stands as a trusted ally, providing unwavering support and valuable aid, making her a dependable partner.
The Ambassador further added that Ghana’s unwavering commitment to solidarity and cooperation has earned the trust of many nations, which reinforces Ghana’s reputation as a reliable and compassionate force for resolving challenges in the continent, including those in the nature of the current conflict in Sudan.

Sudan is facing a devastating civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023 over control of the government and military.
The city of El Fasher in North Darfur has become a key battleground, recently overtaken by the RSF, who committed mass atrocities. Reports indicate that over 150,000 people have died, and millions have been displaced.
Human rights groups accuse RSF of genocide, citing 1,500 civilian deaths in three days. The conflict has triggered a humanitarian crisis, collapsing infrastructure and causing famine, which has prompted urgent international appeals and calls for peace through the Jeddah Declaration.
The Jeddah Declaration is a humanitarian agreement signed in May 2023 between Sudan’s warring factions, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to protect civilians and facilitate aid during the ongoing conflict.

Sudan’s crisis is one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent history, with urgent global attention needed to halt the violence and begin reconstruction.
The United Nations (UN) has since launched a $6 billion humanitarian appeal to support 21 million Sudanese and 5 million refugees in neighboring countries.
The Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Gariballa Khidir Ali, conveyed a strong sense of optimism, emphasizing that Sudan’s path to peace and stability is achievable through the united efforts of African nations.
He underscored the importance of regional solidarity, cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing the crisis. By working together, he believed African countries could help Sudan overcome its challenges, rebuild its institutions, and lay the foundation for a more secure and stable future for its citizens.
“We are open to African-led initiatives and solutions, and we believe Ghana can play a pivotal role in this process.”

In response, the Speaker of Ghana’s parliament, Rt. Hon. Bagbin, expressed his appreciation to the Sudanese delegation for their trust in Ghana’s leadership role.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering commitment to standing in solidarity with the people of Sudan, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to supporting peace, stability, and humanitarian efforts during Sudan’s time of crisis and need.
The Rt. Hon. Bagbin stressed that Sudan holds a vital position as a strategic partner in Africa’s broader development agenda, emphasizing that Sudan’s stability is crucial not only for its own progress but also for the collective advancement of the continent.

He added that any disruption or unrest in Sudan inevitably has a negative effect across Africa, which has the potential of impacting regional peace, economic growth, and integration efforts.
“It will take a collective African resolve to bring lasting peace to the region,” the speaker emphasized.
The Speaker reaffirmed Ghana’s steadfast commitment to supporting Sudan, emphasizing a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to assistance, including the implementation of peacebuilding initiatives to foster reconciliation and healing, the provision of technical cooperation to enhance institutional capacity, and advocating for international solidarity to mobilize global support.
The Speaker further pledged Ghana’s support in terms of offering targeted training programs to build local expertise and leverage parliamentary diplomacy to facilitate constructive dialogue.
These combined efforts are designed to promote enduring peace, national unity, and sustainable development in Sudan, especially during this critical period of crisis and transition, adding that Ghana stands ready to contribute meaningfully to Sudan’s recovery and future stability.
