The newly inaugurated Akosombo Management Committee (AMC) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has pledged to uphold Standards of the Authority.
This vow followed the recent ushering in of the new era of the 2025-2028 leadership of Akosombo Management Committee (AMC).
This transition marks a significant milestone as the incoming committee during the ceremony insist they will spearhead the high standards set by their predecessors and drive the continued development of the Akosombo Dam for the benefit of the country.
The inauguration ceremony, presided over by the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority, Mr. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, was both a celebration of the outgoing committee’s remarkable contributions and a formal induction of the new members who will now carry the torch forward. “Today’s event is both a celebration and a transition,” remarked Mr. Obeng-Kenzo in his welcome speech.
“I therefore declare the 2020-2024 AMC formally dissolved, paving the way for the induction of the new 2025-2028 AMC. To the incoming AMC members, I offer my warmest congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure.”

The incoming committee members expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve and uphold the standards set by past committees over the decades. “Colleagues, on the management committee, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve and hold up the standard set by the past committees over the decades,” stated a representative of the new committee. They acknowledged the dedicated service of the outgoing members, emphasizing that “the evidence of their work has been clear and worth celebrating.”
The new Akosombo Management Committee (AMC) members also vowed to work tirelessly to ensure that Akosombo Dam develops in line with the executive instrument 42, which guides the Authority’s mission and vision.
This vow underscores the committee’s commitment to upholding the mandate entrusted to them.
The Volta River Authority has been a critical player in Ghana’s energy landscape, contributing significantly to the country’s power generation and distribution.
The Authority’s flagship project, the Akosombo Dam, has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s electricity infrastructure, providing a reliable source of hydroelectric power for decades.
VRA’s Ambitions

The Volta River Authority (VRA), the parent organization overseeing the Akosombo Township, announced ambitious plans to expand its power generation capacity over the next five years.
As revealed by the VRA Board Chair, Mr. Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, the Authority aims to increase its generation capacity from the current 50% of the country’s power supply to between 1,600 and 1,800 megawatts.
The expansion plan which is driven by the authority’s desire to strengthen its role in the country’s electricity sector and meet the growing domestic demand for power.
“The country needs to add around 350 megawatts annually, and over the next five years, we aim to contribute between 1,600 and 1,800 megawatts.”

The Authority’s expansion plans, as outlined by the Board Chair, demonstrate the organization’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s energy security and meeting the evolving needs of the nation.

This strategic initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to ensure a stable and sustainable power supply, as highlighted by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. Richard Gyan Mensah, who commended VRA’s growth and urged stronger collaboration with stakeholders to restore full profitability.
As the newly inaugurated Akosombo Management Committee takes the helm, they are poised to build upon the legacy of their predecessors and contribute to the continued development of the Akosombo community and the visions and plans of the Volta River Authority.
