The New Patriotic Party has formally announced a detailed timetable for its internal elections, culminating in the National Executive Elections scheduled for September 18 to 20, 2026.
The roadmap was unveiled at a press conference addressed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, who described the process as a critical step in strengthening the party’s democratic culture and rebuilding its structures ahead of future national contests.
According to the General Secretary, the internal elections will begin with the continuation of the party’s nationwide membership registration exercise, which initially commenced in late 2025.
“So we are continuing with that process, and that process starts from the 1st of March to the 31st of March 2026. That will be the registration of members. The data entry of members who have been registered shall be between 1st April and 10th April 2026.”

According to Mr Koduah, the data entry for newly registered members will be followed by a verification exercise between April 14 and April 16. Mr. Koduah noted that verification is a crucial safeguard to eliminate irregularities and enhance confidence in the credibility of the party’s internal processes.
Polling Station Elections Mark First Competitive Phase
Following the completion of the registration and verification stages, the party will officially begin its internal elections with polling station level contests. Nominations for polling station positions will open from April 20 to April 24, 2026, with voting scheduled between April 25 and April 30.

The General Secretary explained that appeals arising from polling station elections will be received from May 1 to May 4, after which notices of poll will be issued from May 6 to May 9.
Elections for polling station executives will then be conducted from May 10 to May 16, with data entry and validation of the polling station executive album taking place between May 17 and May 21.
He emphasized that the grassroots level remains the foundation of the party’s strength, making the integrity of polling station elections particularly important. According to him, the National Secretariat will work closely with constituency and regional executives to ensure strict adherence to laid down rules and timelines.
Electoral Area and Constituency Elections Follow
Once polling station elections are completed, attention will shift to Electoral Area Executive Committee elections. Nominations for these positions will open from May 23 to May 25, with voting slated for May 26 to May 31.
Appeals will be handled from June 1 to June 4, and notices of poll issued between June 5 and June 8. Elections for Electoral Area executives will be held from June 10 to June 15, followed by data entry and validation from June 16 to June 20.
The next phase will involve Constituency Executive Committee elections. According to the announced schedule, nominations will open from June 22 to June 24, while voting will take place between June 25 and June 27.
Appeals will be received from June 28 to June 30, and notices of poll issued from July 2 to July 5. Elections of constituency officers are expected to be conducted from July 11 to July 12, with validation of results and data entry running from July 13 to July 26.

Mr. Koduah stressed that constituency and regional steering committees will be directly responsible for supervising activities at this stage, under the overall oversight of the National Secretariat.
Diaspora, Regional and National Contests
The General Secretary also outlined timelines for chapter and external branch elections, which involve party structures in the diaspora. He explained that for the New Patriotic Party, chapters and external branches represent members living outside Ghana.
These elections, including nominations, vetting, appeals, voting, and data validation, are expected to take place between June 20 and July 19, 2026, with branch level activities extending into early August.
Regional Executive Committee elections will follow shortly after. Nominations for regional positions will open from July 15 to July 17, with vetting conducted between July 20 and July 23.
Appeals will be considered from July 24 to July 26, and notices of poll issued from July 27 to July 30. Voting for regional executives is scheduled for August 8 and August 9, with data entry and validation concluding on August 23.
These stages, Mr. Koduah said, are designed to ensure continuity and allow sufficient time for resolving disputes before the party’s national leadership elections.
National Executive Elections in September
The climax of the internal electoral process will be the party’s National Executive Elections, which, according to its General Secretary, is scheduled for September 18 to 20, 2026.
Nominations for national positions will open from August 10 to August 14, with filing of nominations between August 15 and August 17. Vetting of aspirants is set for August 20 to August 23, and vetting reports will be released on August 25.

Appeals against vetting outcomes will be entertained from August 28 to August 29, paving the way for the final elections in September. Mr. Koduah described the national elections as the most significant phase of the entire process, noting that they will shape the party’s leadership direction in the years ahead.
He assured party members that the National Secretariat is committed to transparency, fairness, and strict enforcement of party regulations throughout the exercise. According to him, lessons from previous internal contests have informed improvements in planning, communication, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Strengthening Party Democracy
In concluding his address, the General Secretary called on party members at all levels to actively participate in the process and respect its outcomes. He emphasized that internal democracy remains central to the New Patriotic Party’s identity and long term electoral competitiveness.
He also urged aspirants to conduct their campaigns responsibly and in a manner that promotes unity rather than division. According to him, the ultimate goal of the internal elections is not only to choose leaders but also to consolidate the party’s structures and prepare it for future national elections.
With a clearly defined roadmap stretching from grassroots registration to national leadership elections, the New Patriotic Party has signaled its intention to run one of the most extensive and structured internal electoral processes in its history.
