Sylvia Inkoom Takes Helm as First National Bank Ghana CEO

Sylvia Inkoom, new First National Bank Ghana CEO

First National Bank Ghana has announced the appointment of Sylvia Inkoom as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 July 2026.

Her elevation marks a significant leadership transition for the bank as it continues to strengthen its presence in Ghana’s competitive financial services industry. The appointment remains subject to regulatory approval from the Bank of Ghana.

Sylvia Inkoom succeeds Warren Adams, who has led the bank since 2022 and will now assume a new role within the broader FirstRand Group. Her appointment reflects the bank’s strategic direction of deepening financial access and delivering intuitive, client-centred banking services across the country.

Extensive Experience Across Banking Segments

Sylvia Inkoom brings over two decades of experience in banking to her new role. With 21 years of professional expertise, she has built a strong track record across relationship management, treasury, global markets, finance, and structured deals.

Prior to her appointment, she served as Executive Director and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at First National Bank Ghana. In that capacity, she played a pivotal role in strengthening client relationships and expanding the bank’s corporate and investment banking portfolio.

Her earlier career also includes a senior leadership role as Deputy Managing Director at UBA Ghana, where she gained both local and international exposure in banking and finance. This diverse experience positions her to lead the bank into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Her background in structured deals and corporate banking is expected to complement the bank’s digital strategy by bridging traditional banking strengths with modern financial solutions. This approach is critical in a rapidly evolving financial landscape where customer expectations continue to shift.

The leadership change is therefore not only a transition but also a strategic move aimed at positioning the bank for sustained growth.

Industry Leaders Welcome the Appointment

The appointment has also received strong support from leadership within the FirstRand Group. Bydon Longwe, Broader Africa CEO of FirstRand, expressed optimism about Sylvia Inkoom’s ability to deliver results.

Appreciation for Outgoing CEO

As the bank welcomes its new leader, it has also paid tribute to the contributions of outgoing CEO Warren Adams. During his tenure, the bank strengthened its operational foundation and built a strong reputation within Ghana’s banking industry.

Mr. Idun acknowledged his efforts, stating, “We are deeply grateful to Warren for his stewardship, under which the bank’s foundation was strengthened and positioned as a credible entity within Ghana’s banking sector”.

“His tenure was marked by a consistent commitment to building a high-performing team and fostering a culture anchored in customer-centricity and excellence. Warren’s leadership has created the conditions from which Sylvia and the broader team can confidently accelerate the bank’s next phase of growth”.

Emmanuel Idun, Board Chairman

Warren Adams himself expressed confidence in his successor, emphasizing the strength of the bank’s team and its future prospects.

“With our proven customer-centric approach and the quality of our team, Sylvia’s leadership will enable us to take on more opportunities to move First National Bank forward.

“In her very capable hands, the team has all it takes to contribute to becoming a significant market player and supporting the overall growth and quality of the banking industry in Ghana.”

With Sylvia Inkoom at the helm, First National Bank Ghana is poised to deepen its impact in the banking sector while advancing its customer-focused strategy.
