During the May Day celebration at Jackson Park, the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian has a place in national governance.

He explained that every region serves as a vital heartbeat of the country, adding that the relocation demonstrates that the Ghanaian worker exists in every corner of the sovereign land.

He described the move as proof of the Resetting Ghana agenda, stating that development will reach the doorstep of every citizen, regardless of geographical location.

He highlighted his recent visit to the Accra International Airport to inspect gateway operations and his trip to the Volta Region to monitor progress on the Blekusu sea defence project.

He noted that his administration is focused on inclusivity and acts in the best interest of all people, viewing the presidential mandate as a sacred duty to improve the lives of every citizen.

He also spoke about his visit to Fuveme earlier in the week to observe the impact of tidal waves on local livelihoods, as well as his inspection of the fire damage at the Akosombo electricity generation station to oversee repairs.

He commended engineers from GRIDCo and the VRA for successfully bypassing the burnt control room to restart turbines, celebrating them as the nation’s most valuable assets.

He added that the Akosombo hydroelectric dam has returned to full operation due to the dedicated efforts of the technical teams, and applauded the ingenuity shown by local workers during the crisis.

He announced plans to continue the Resetting Ghana tour with a town hall meeting on Saturday in Koforidua, where students, teachers, and traders will have the opportunity to engage directly with national leadership.

He emphasised the theme of the May Day celebration signals a roadmap toward growth and sustainable livelihoods, adding that the government aims to move beyond simple macroeconomic stability to achieve real transformation.

He explained that the initial task involved stopping the economic bleeding by reining in inflation, noting that his administration has reduced interest rates and restored fiscal discipline over the past year.

He reported that the cedi has achieved stability while investor confidence has returned to the market, describing these gains as a turning point from economic fragility toward resilience.

He stated that his administration is pursuing growth and job creation through aggressive new policies, with the mission of turning stability into tangible opportunities for every Ghanaian family.

“Having successfully restored macroeconomic stability through our Resetting Ghana agenda, we are now aggressively pursuing growth and job creation. We will not merely manage the economy; we will expand it to create jobs and prosperity for the Ghanaian people. Our mission is clear: to turn stability into opportunity.”

He added that investment in value addition and the digital economy will empower the workforce, assuring that the youth will find decent jobs under the new economic framework.

New Economic Policies Target Job Creation And Public Sector Fairness

The President stated that the Minister of Finance would soon present a new economic policy to Parliament, allocating one per cent of national GDP annually to high-yielding growth areas.

He explained that the 24-hour economy policy had gained approval from the legislature as a flagship strategy, with tax incentives provided to industries operating multiple work shifts to boost production.

He noted that power costs had decreased for companies adopting the extended workday model, adding that a new labour bill was nearing completion to address modern trends such as remote work and the gig economy.

He indicated that the legislation would ensure digital platform workers gained access to secure pensions, stressing that the Resetting Ghana agenda protected the dignity of every worker, regardless of their sector.

The President said the government was working to establish the Independent Emoluments Commission to create a fairer pay system, aimed at remunerating all public workers, from the President to the lowest-paid staff.

He added that the constitutional review process sought to remove distortions created by Article 71 conditions, ensuring a transparent salary structure aligned with market realities.

The President announced that his administration would review the tiered pension scheme to address worker complaints, acknowledging that many citizens found their pensions inadequate after years of service.

He said consultations with organised labour would follow the review to determine necessary modifications, with the aim of ensuring that every retiree lived in comfort and security.

He noted that agricultural reforms would focus on processing fifty per cent of cocoa beans locally by next year and encouraged the TUC to monitor the management of state-owned enterprises.

The President stated that the Tema Oil Refinery had resumed operations alongside the revitalised Tema Shipyard, adding that the Agricultural Development Bank had been recapitalised to support local farmers.

He explained that the Big Push programme would consider absorbing the Western Rail Line to transport minerals, improving the movement of cocoa beans from plantations to the ports.

He emphasised that the National Workplace HIV and Wellness Policy reflected a strong commitment to worker health, with intensified factory inspections to protect lives and limbs in the workplace.

He added that the digitisation of labour compliance would prevent employers from cutting corners on safety and urged all workers to take advantage of the new Free Primary Healthcare programme.

“Under the Resetting Ghana agenda, we’ll continue to prioritise the creation of decent jobs for our youth and Ghana’s workforce.”

His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama

The President announced that his administration had granted clearance for the employment of twenty thousand teachers and nurses, noting that many had remained at home for too long awaiting postings.

He further revealed that the security services had received approval to recruit forty thousand new personnel over four years, reaffirming his dedication to the prosperity of the Ghanaian worker.
