Honourable Ali Seidu Mahama

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alidu Seidu Mahama, has pledged full secondary school scholarships for high-achieving students.

These academic awards are targeted at Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates who will secure an aggregate six score.

He provided essential mathematical sets to over 1,800 students and offered financial stipends to assist every candidate during the BECE examination period.

He identified the mathematical set as the most vital tool for the upcoming papers.

He insisted that every child possessed the necessary equipment to succeed in their technical and scientific subjects.

He also initiated three months of intensive extra classes organised across five different segments.

These educational sessions reached students across the geographic length of the Tamale Central constituency.

The initiative built upon previous educational programmes established by the late Murtala Mohammed.

Organisers divided the learning centres to ensure every registered student received adequate preparation for their final examinations.

Honourable Alidu Seidu Mahama also visited the examination centres to offer personal counsel to the young learners.

He encouraged the candidates to remain focused and diligent throughout the duration of the national assessment.

The Honourable also noted that logistical challenges often prevented students from reaching their designated examination halls on time.

The Member of Parliament addressed these transport concerns by providing direct cash stipends to families.

The financial support also covered the daily commute from various homes to the examination centres.

The funding ensured that no student missed a mock exam due to a lack of transport fare, and arrangements have also been made for the main examination.

“We have gone an extra mile to add a stipend that can help them to be able to commute from home to the exam center for the period.”

Honourable Ali Seidu Mahama

The MP praised the dedicated team of teachers who volunteered their expertise for the revision sessions.

These educators remained on standby to refresh the memories of students before they entered the halls.

The teaching staff received tokens of appreciation for their tireless service to the community.

Honourable Seidu Mahama acknowledged that no payment could fully compensate for their voluntary commitment to the youth.

The MP spoke about the mission to train minds for future leadership roles in the region.

He expressed great enthusiasm for the revamped structure of the extra classes this year.

The transition from previous years showed a significant increase in student participation and local interest.

He also stated that the parliamentary office will focus on improving the overall quality of education within the Tamale municipality.

The scholarship scheme represents a major investment in the human capital of the Northern Region.

Honourable Seidu Mahama confirmed that the financial backing will cover the entire duration of secondary school for qualifying students.

The Member of Parliament said the initiative is intended to remove financial barriers that often hinder gifted students.

He explained that the programme is structured to reward academic excellence and provide sustained support to high-performing candidates.

“If we are able to get students who are able to make an aggregate six across the board, we are going to support them with the fee payment at the secondary school level throughout the period that they’ll spend.”

The scholarship programme focuses on students who achieve an aggregate six in the Tamale Constituency as part of an effort to strengthen educational outcomes and bridge the gap to education access.

Alidu Seidu Mahama stated that a significant number of students have already participated in the preparatory processes leading up to the examinations.

He noted that the current level of participation marks a shift from previous approaches within the constituency.

“So technically speaking, we have a lot of people who have expressed interest and enthusiasm and have actually participated in the processes up to this time.”

Honourable Ali Seidu Mahama

He added that the long-term objective is to build capacity and develop future leaders within the constituency.

“We just thank Almighty Allah to give us the strength and fortitude to carry this mission forward and to train minds in this particular constituency to become the great future leaders we want them to be.”
