Netflix’s hit romantic drama series Forever has officially entered production on its second season, generating significant excitement among fans worldwide just one year after its successful debut.
Created by Mara Brock Akil, known for Girlfriends and Being Mary Jane, Forever is a contemporary reimagining of Judy Blume’s iconic 1975 novel.
The series follows childhood friends Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) as they reunite as teenagers in 2018 Los Angeles and navigate the exhilarating yet challenging terrain of first love.

Blending romance, family drama, sports, and coming-of-age elements, the show explores themes of ambition, identity, intimacy, and the pressures facing young Black excellence in America.
Season 1 premiered on May 8, 2025, as a complete eight-episode drop. It quickly earned widespread critical acclaim, achieving a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Viewers and critics praised the compelling chemistry between leads Simone and Cooper Jr., the rich family dynamics, emotional authenticity, and a memorable soundtrack. Netflix renewed the show shortly after launch on May 14, 2025.
Production on Season 2 is now underway in Los Angeles, with filming expected to continue through September 2026.
The new season features a time jump of approximately four years, shifting the story to summer 2023. It will delve deeper into young adulthood and examine the central question, “Can exes really be friends?”

New cast additions include Malaika Guttoh joining as series regular Ameena, alongside recurring stars Avery Wills Jr. as Jaden and Tre McBride as Elijah.
Returning cast members feature Xosha Roquemore, Wood Harris, and Karen Pittman. Grammy-winning producer Khris Riddick-Tynes has signed on as executive music producer.
Brock Akil previously noted the series was built for longevity, “The show is designed to go on. It is designed to have more, love is ongoing!. ”

The series has been recognized for its strong ensemble performances and thoughtful storytelling, with Regina King directing the pilot and finale of Season 1.
As production advances, anticipation builds for how the narrative will evolve the characters’ journeys through growth, reconnection, and the complexities of enduring relationships.
