TREASURE

Gyakie has sent waves of excitement through the African music industry with the announcement of her new project titled TREASURE, set for release on June 26, 2026.

The news, shared widely on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), features striking visuals of the artist and elegant gold-themed artwork, signaling what many fans are calling a potential career milestone for the 26-year-old songstress.

Born Jackline Acheampong on December 16, 1999, in Kumasi, Ghana, Gyakie affectionately known as “Song Bird” has steadily carved a unique space in the Afro-fusion and alternative R&B scene. Daughter of highlife legend Nana Acheampong of the Lumba Brothers, she initially pursued studies in International Business at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology while nurturing her musical talents.

Her journey reflects a deliberate balance between academic roots and artistic passion, emerging as a self-made star who rose beyond familial connections.

Gyakie’s breakthrough came in 2020 with the single “Forever,” which dominated charts across Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria, amassing over 150 million combined streams. The track’s success, boosted by a remix featuring Omah Lay, catapulted her into the spotlight while she was still a university student.

This viral moment marked the beginning of a promising career defined by soulful vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and innovative blends of highlife, Afrobeats, and contemporary R&B.

Her early discography includes the 2020 EP Seed, which introduced her signature sound, followed by My Diary in 2022. These projects showcased her growth as a songwriter drawing from personal emotions and real-life experiences.

Collaborations with heavyweights like Davido, KiDi, and Khaid further expanded her reach, earning her accolades such as Emerging Woman of the Year and Woman of the Year at the 3Music Awards, along with multiple Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nominations.

In 2025, Gyakie released her highly anticipated debut album After Midnight, a 17-track exploration of vulnerability, love, and self-discovery. The project received critical acclaim, positioning her as Billboard’s African Rookie of the Month and solidifying her status as one of Ghana’s leading female voices. Tracks like “Sankofa” and “Unconditional” highlighted her evolving artistry, blending sultry melodies with culturally rich rhythms.

The announcement of TREASURE comes at a pivotal time. With the visuals teasing a more mature, confident aesthetic- complete with her signature orange-blonde hair and playful yet elegant presentation- fans are speculating whether this marks a new single, EP, or full project rollout. Early teasers for a sultry track titled “Treasure,” possibly featuring Nigerian artist Mavo, have already generated buzz, with short clips circulating on Instagram and TikTok amassing hundreds of thousands of views.

Public Reactions

Industry observers note that Gyakie’s timing is impeccable. African music continues its global dominance, with Ghanaian artists gaining increased international streaming numbers and festival bookings. Her label partnership with Flip The Music and Sony Music provides the infrastructure for wider distribution and marketing, potentially pushing TREASURE toward pan-African and diaspora success.

Music critics highlight Gyakie’s ability to infuse authenticity into her work. Unlike many peers chasing trends, she draws inspiration from Ghanaian highlife pioneers while incorporating modern production elements. This fusion has resonated deeply with listeners seeking substance amid the fast-paced Afrobeats landscape.

Her transparent approach to songwriting often exploring themes of love, heartbreak, empowerment, and cultural identity has built a loyal fanbase that spans generations.

Social media reactions to the TREASURE announcement have been overwhelmingly positive. Fans flooded comment sections with anticipation, hailing the date 26/06/26 as symbolically perfect. Many praised the artwork’s luxurious gold lettering against a dark backdrop with leaf motifs, interpreting it as a nod to growth and hidden riches waiting to be discovered.

As the countdown to June 26 begins, expectations are high. Insiders suggest the project may feature more cross-border collaborations, reflecting the increasingly interconnected West African music scene.

Gyakie’s trajectory mirrors the broader evolution of Ghanaian music on the global stage. From the highlife era of her father’s generation to today’s digital streaming dominance, she represents a bridge between tradition and innovation. Her refusal to be defined solely as a “nepo baby” has earned respect, proving her talent through consistent output and live performances that showcase powerful vocals and stage presence.

Beyond music, Gyakie has become a style icon and role model for young African women pursuing creative careers. Her journey underscores the importance of education, patience, and staying true to one’s roots amid fame’s pressures.

With TREASURE on the horizon, the industry watches closely. For an artist who has already achieved significant milestones early in her career, this release could mark her ascension to the upper echelons of African superstars.

As June 26 approaches, one thing remains certain: Gyakie continues to deliver musical gems that resonate far beyond Ghana’s borders.
