AC Milan have officially appointed Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim as the new head coach of the club’s men’s first team, marking a fresh chapter for the Italian giants ahead of the new season.
The 41-year-old arrives at the San Siro after leaving Manchester United in January and replaces Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed following the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.
Amorim’s appointment signals Milan’s intent to embrace a progressive football philosophy as they seek to return to the summit of Italian and European football.
The Portuguese tactician is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young managers, having built a strong reputation through his work in Portugal particularly where he guided Sporting CP to the Portuguese League title in the 2023-24 season.
The Rossoneri confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, with the former Sporting CP boss set to take over alongside his trusted coaching staff as preparations begin for the upcoming season.
Another Chapter Begins
Amorim began his coaching journey in 2018 after ending a successful playing career that saw him represent Belenenses, Benfica and the Portugal national team.
His first coaching experiences came at Casa Pia and Braga before he was handed the Sporting CP job in March 2020. It was in Lisbon where he established himself as one of Europe’s most innovative coaches.
Under his leadership, Sporting enjoyed a period of remarkable success, winning two Portuguese league titles, two League Cups and a Super Cup. Beyond the silverware, Amorim earned praise for developing young talent and implementing an attractive, possession-based style of play.
His achievements eventually attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, leading to his move to Manchester United before now embarking on a new challenge in Italy.
