President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that his administration is committed to improving the quality of life for all Ghanaians, stressing that government must remain focused on delivering tangible results in job creation, economic stability, and social development.
He made the remarks during a ceremony held to rename the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national headquarters in Accra as the Jerry John Rawlings House, in honour of the party’s founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings. The event also included the unveiling of a bust to commemorate his legacy.
The gathering brought together senior party executives, government officials, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, party activists, and invited guests. It formed part of activities reflecting on Rawlings’ contribution to the party and Ghana’s democratic evolution.
President Mahama said the occasion represented both reflection and renewal, adding that the greatest honour owed to those who built the political movement is to continue the work they began rather than merely remember them.

Governance Expectations and National Responsibility
Addressing the ceremony, President Mahama said the Ghanaian people have placed significant trust in the government and expect results that improve their daily lives.
“The Ghanaian people have entrusted us with a solemn responsibility. They have placed their hopes and aspirations in our hands and entrusted us to deliver on our promises”.

He outlined key expectations of citizens, noting that Ghanaians demand job creation for young people, economic transformation and stability, improved healthcare and education systems, stronger institutions, and adherence to the rule of law.

According to him, citizens also expect leadership that is guided by integrity, competence, and humility. “These expectations of the Ghanaian people are legitimate, and we must remain focused on fulfilling them,” the President emphasized.
He assured that his administration remains committed to policies aimed at expanding opportunities, supporting businesses, reducing poverty, and improving living standards across the country.
“As a government, I can assure you we are committed to implementing policies that will expand opportunities for young people, support businesses, create jobs, reduce poverty, and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians”.

Commitment to Economic Stability and Growth
President Mahama acknowledged the challenges facing the country but stressed that Ghana also possesses significant potential for transformation. He said the government is focused on creating the conditions necessary for sustained economic stability and inclusive growth.
He emphasized that economic policy must prioritize long-term stability while ensuring that growth benefits all segments of society, particularly young people and small businesses.

The President noted that employment creation remains central to his administration’s agenda, alongside efforts to strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery. He added that addressing economic challenges requires collaboration, discipline, and consistent policy implementation.
Unity as a Pillar of Progress
A central theme of the President’s address was the importance of unity within the party and across the nation, which he described as essential for political and developmental progress.
He said the achievements of the NDC over the years have been made possible through collective effort and a commitment to shared goals. “As we celebrate our history today, we must remember that unity remains our greatest strength,” he said.
President Mahama cautioned that no political movement can succeed if it is divided against itself, noting that the founding members of the party understood this principle deeply. He urged members of the party to continue strengthening internal cohesion and avoid divisions that could weaken its mission.
“Our founding generation recognised that no political movement can succeed if it is divided against itself. And so as we move forward, let us continue to strengthen the bonds that bind us”.

He further encouraged members to prioritize dialogue over division and solidarity over factionalism, stressing that unity is essential for effective governance.

Institutional Memory and Rawlings’ Legacy
President Mahama described the renaming of the headquarters and the unveiling of the bust as important acts of institutional memory that preserve the history and values of the party.
He emphasized that Jerry John Rawlings played a foundational role in shaping the ideological identity of the NDC and Ghana’s broader democratic journey. According to him, the ceremony serves to remind current and future generations of the sacrifices that were made to establish and sustain the party.
He added that history is essential because it helps societies understand their origins and provides direction for the future. For President Mahama, preserving memory is not only about honouring individuals but also about reinforcing values that guide national development and democratic governance.

The newly renamed Jerry John Rawlings House now serves as the central administrative hub of the NDC, housing key party operations, strategic planning, and policy coordination.
President Mahama described the facility as more than just an office building, noting that it represents the continuity of the party’s political journey. He explained that the headquarters reflects the contributions of generations of party members who have worked under different conditions to build the organization.
By naming it after Rawlings, the party seeks to permanently connect its present operations with its founding ideals and historical roots.
Renewed Commitment to National Development
President Mahama concluded his address by reaffirming that the NDC administration remains committed to improving the quality of life for all Ghanaians. He emphasized that governance must be guided by responsibility, focus, and dedication to public service.
He urged party members to remain committed to the shared mission of serving the people and strengthening national institutions. The President said the occasion should not only serve as a reflection of the past but also as a reminder of the responsibility to deliver results in the present.

He reiterated that the ultimate tribute to leaders like Jerry John Rawlings is the continued pursuit of their vision through effective governance and national development.
As the ceremony ended, party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding Rawlings’ legacy while working toward economic transformation, social progress, and improved living standards for all citizens.
