Road infrastructure across thirteen towns and communities in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District is undergoing significant transformation under the ongoing Rehabilitation of Selected Roads Project, according to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
The project covers a total stretch of 81.3 kilometres and forms part of the Government’s Big Push Programme, an initiative aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing local economic activities across the country.
The Ministry confirmed that work on the roads is progressing steadily, with the project currently standing at 73 percent physical completion, marking substantial progress toward its eventual handover to the communities it serves.
The rehabilitation work is being undertaken by Messrs Mo & Mo Company Ltd, which began construction in December 2025. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2027, giving the contractor a timeline of just under two years to complete the full scope of work across the district’s road network.
The steady pace of construction reported so far suggests the project remains on track to meet its completion target, though the remaining 27 percent of work will need to proceed at a similar pace to keep the timeline intact.
Essiam Enclave Roads Span 20.5 Kilometres
Among the beneficiary areas, the Essiam Enclave accounts for 20.5 kilometres of the total road network under rehabilitation. This enclave includes the Essiam to Bisease stretch, along with roads serving Essiam Town and Denkyira.
These communities sit at the heart of one of the district’s more populated clusters, and improved roads there are expected to ease movement between the town centres and surrounding settlements.
Ajumako Enclave Covers Nearly 27 Kilometres
The Ajumako Enclave represents the second major cluster of roads under the project, spanning 26.8 kilometres. This portion of the rehabilitation includes the Mando to Kromaim road, the Assasan to Essaman stretch, and the Abrofoa to Ampia to Attakrom corridor.
Roads serving Assasan and Ajumako itself are also included in this enclave, connecting several communities that rely on these routes for daily transport and trade.
Given that Ajumako serves as a key town within the district, the rehabilitation of roads in this enclave carries particular significance for overall connectivity across the district’s administrative and commercial activities.
Abaasa Enclave Forms the Largest Portion
The largest share of the project falls within the Abaasa Enclave, which covers 34 kilometres of road network, the biggest single portion among the three enclaves.
This stretch includes the Nsawadze to Onyaadze road, the Abaasa to Nkodwo corridor, and roads serving Abaasa town directly. It also includes the Abaasa to Enyamaim stretch and roads within Enyamaim itself.
The scale of work within this enclave reflects the geographic spread of communities relying on these roads, many of which connect smaller settlements to the district’s broader transport network.
Part of a Broader National Push
The Ministry situated this project within the wider context of the Big Push Programme, which it described as seeking to accelerate Ghana’s socio-economic transformation through strategic investment in critical road infrastructure.
The programme extends beyond Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam to cover road projects in multiple districts nationwide, with the underlying goal of improving connectivity as a foundation for broader economic activity.
By framing the Ajumako project within this larger initiative, the Ministry positioned the district’s road improvements as one piece of a coordinated national strategy rather than an isolated infrastructure undertaking.
What Improved Roads Could Mean for Local Communities
For the thirteen towns and communities covered under this project, completed roads promise more than smoother travel.
Better connectivity typically supports local economic activities by easing the transport of goods to market, reducing travel time between communities, and improving access to services located in larger towns within the district.
Communities across the Essiam, Ajumako, and Abaasa enclaves stand to benefit directly once the roads reach full completion, particularly those that have relied on roads in poor condition for years to move agricultural produce and other goods to trading centres.
With the project already past the 70 percent mark and a completion date set for November 2027, attention now turns to whether construction continues at its current steady pace through the remaining stretch of work.
For residents across the thirteen beneficiary communities, the coming months will determine how soon they see the full benefits of a project designed to reshape road access across their district.
