Arathejay, Musician

In the fast-paced world of Ghanaian music, where anticipation often builds for months around major drops, rising star Arathejay has taken a different approach.

On July 30-31, 2026, the artist surprise-released his latest project, the six-track EP Christo Disco, catching fans and industry watchers off guard with a project that blends his signature introspective style, highlife roots, and contemporary Afrobeats energy.

The EP, available on major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Audiomack, quickly made its mark. Within hours of release, it climbed to No. 17 on the Apple Music Ghana albums chart, signaling strong initial domestic interest.

Arathejay, whose real name is associated with Samuel Ofei Ankrah Badu, has built a reputation for music that transcends typical genre boundaries. Born in Sekondi-Takoradi and rooted in Ghana’s Eastern Region, he emerged as one of the most compelling new voices in Ghanaian music through heartfelt songwriting, spiritual undertones, and a distinctive visual aesthetic often featuring a crocheted balaclava and bold, faith-inspired imagery.

His previous works, including the 2024 EP Finding Nimo Series: The Capsule and the 2025 debut album The Odyssey, established him as an artist unafraid to explore vulnerability, perseverance, and purpose.

Christo Disco continues this thematic journey. The title itself evokes a fusion: “Christo” nodding to Christian faith and spiritual awakening, paired with “Disco” suggesting celebratory, danceable grooves. Album artwork captures this duality-one image shows Arathejay in a dramatic, expressive pose against artistic backdrops, another features him in signature masked style with “OUT NOW” prominently displayed, and the tracklist confirms a concise yet potent project.

Public Reaction

Early reactions from listeners highlight the cohesive theme. One fan noted on social media that “the album title and theme resonate throughout the EP. This is what we call an album,” praising its depth despite the shorter format. Tracks like “Sunsum,” “Famame,” and “Bosompim” were flagged as highly anticipated, while “15 July” has drawn personal favorites for its emotional resonance.

The collaboration with Kojo Blak on “Rover” adds another layer of dynamism.

This release comes on the heels of significant momentum for Arathejay. His collaboration “Jesus Christ II” with Black Sherif became a massive hit, topping Apple Music Ghana charts and earning spots on prestigious playlists like Apple Music’s Africa Now.

The Odyssey ranked among Ghana’s most streamed albums, amassing tens of millions of streams and earning award nominations, including at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. His management under Almighty Entertainment has orchestrated comprehensive campaigns involving tours, media placements, and community activations.

Industry observers see Christo Disco as a strategic bridge maintaining visibility between larger projects while deepening his artistic identity. Arathejay has consistently emphasized that his music is spiritual at its core.

In past interviews, he described genre as merely a vehicle: “I don’t want to be seen through the lens of doing genre-based music… Music is spiritual.” This EP appears to embody that philosophy, merging uplifting messages with infectious rhythms suitable for both reflection and the dancefloor.

The surprise element adds to the excitement. Unlike traditional rollouts with heavy pre-release promotion, Christo Disco arrived quietly, allowing the music to speak first. Fan accounts and charts trackers were among the first to amplify the news, with calls to stream on Spotify and Audiomack circulating rapidly.

Visually and sonically, the project maintains Arathejay’s high standards. Cover imagery blends modern portraiture with textured, artistic elements, reinforcing his reputation for immersive storytelling that extends beyond audio. His ability to fuse highlife melodies reminiscent of Ghanaian legends with contemporary Afrobeats production continues to set him apart in a crowded scene.

For Ghanaian music, this release underscores the vitality of the new generation. Artists like Arathejay are not only achieving domestic success but positioning themselves for broader African and global appeal, much like peers who have broken through via streaming and strategic collaborations.

His inclusion in Apple Music’s Africa Rising Class of 2025 was an early indicator of this trajectory.

As Christo Disco continues to climb charts and spark conversations, it reinforces Arathejay’s growth. From breakthrough singles to conceptual projects like the Finding Nimo series, he has demonstrated consistency, evolution, and a commitment to authenticity.

Fans can expect the EP to live beyond its initial drop, potentially spawning visuals, live performances, and further cultural impact.

In an era where attention spans are short, Arathejay’s surprise drop proves that quality and resonance still cut through. Christo Disco invites listeners into another chapter of spiritual disco-celebration meets contemplation, grooves meet gospel-inspired introspection.

For a rising star who has already delivered millions of streams and critical acclaim, this EP is both a statement of arrival and a promise of more to come.
