Minerals Commission

Minerals Commission

Minerals Commission has issued an urgent public disclaimer alerting citizens, job seekers, and stakeholders across the extractive sector to ongoing fraudulent recruitment schemes falsely using the institution’s name to extort money.

The regulatory body explained that unscrupulous individuals and unauthorized entities have been falsely offering employment and claiming to facilitate recruitment processes into the Commission in exchange for illegal monetary payments.

In response to these widespread deceptive activities, management strongly urged the public to exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, and completely disregard any communication from unauthorized agents demanding fees.

  1. The Commission has not contracted any individual, agent, or group of persons to recruit on its behalf.
  2. The Commission does not and will never demand any form of payment, down payment, facilitation fee, or money in exchange for employment. recruitment into the public service of Ghana is free.
  3. All official recruitments by the Commission, when available, are duly advertised through the national dailies, the official website of the Commission (www.mincom.gov.gh), our verified social media handles and news portals.”

Escalating Employment Fraud in the Extractive Sector

The decision by the regulatory agency to issue a official disclaimer comes against the backdrop of rising cyber fraud and fake job syndicates targeting vulnerable job seekers within Ghana’s lucrative mining and minerals sector.

With high interest among youth and professionals to secure stable employment within state institutions, scammers frequently construct fake digital recruitment portals, social media pages, and unauthorized payment links designed to collect illicit “facilitation fees” from unsuspecting victims.

To safeguard prospective applicants from financial exploitation, the Commission reiterated that public service recruitment carries zero fee requirements under Ghanaian law. Furthermore, the authority emphasized that legitimate vacancy announcements are exclusively published through mainstream public national dailies, the Commission’s verified online channels, and formal government news portals.

Applicants were explicitly cautioned against dealing with third-party intermediaries, private agency reps, or unofficial contact numbers.

Safeguarding Public Trust and Sector Integrity

Behind the regulatory warning lies a broader necessity to safeguard public trust, protect institution credibility, and defend the financial well-being of job-seeking citizens.

Public sector institutions face persistent reputation risks when fraudulent schemes operate unchecked under their brand names, leading to significant hardship for citizens defrauded of their savings.

By formally outlining its mandatory recruitment procedures, the regulator aims to dismantle fraudulent networks while streamlining public communication.

The Commission urged anyone targeted by employment scammers to immediately report suspicious individuals, fake recruitment agents, and fee demands to law enforcement agencies or directly through official contact lines at 0302772786 and [email protected].

Reaffirming its commitment to operational excellence, management declared, “We remain committed to transparency and integrity in all our operations, and we deeply regret any inconvenience or confusion these illicit activities may cause”.
