Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to Lionel Messi following the Argentine’s decision to retire from international football, describing the legendary forward as a player whose extraordinary quality cannot be adequately captured in words.
Mourinho made the comments during his pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga meeting with Real Betis on Friday, September 4, at the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville.

The Real Madrid boss jokingly admitted that following Major League Soccer is not necessarily his preferred way of spending his football-watching time, but acknowledged that Messi’s presence changes the equation. “And that’s something [watching the MLS] I don’t particularly prefer, so we can enjoy these final years of his career,” Mourinho said.
