The Deputy Chief Executive (Banking) of Ghana Exim Bank (GEXIM), Mr. Moses Klu Mensah, has paid a working inspection visit to Nadkansco Processing Limited in Techiman in the Bono East Region, a state-of-the-art cashew processing facility funded by the Bank.

The factory, which is strategically sited in Ghana’s cashew belt, is scheduled to commence commercial operations by mid-November 2026 and is expected to become a major catalyst for job creation, export earnings and value addition in the cashew value chain.

During the tour, Mr. Klu Mensah expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, noting that civil works, installation of machinery and auxiliary infrastructure were at advanced stages of completion. He commended the promoters of the facility for their commitment to quality and adherence to project timelines.

“This is an impressive project. What we have seen here today is a clear demonstration of what is possible when we deliberately support Ghanaian enterprises with the right financing.”

Mr. Mensah

GEXIM Industrialization Agenda

This factory embodies GEXIM’s mandate to drive industrialization, boost exports and create sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.

Nadkansco Processing Limited is designed to process raw cashew nuts into kernels and other value added products for the export market. With an installed daily processing capacity of 100 metric tonnes, the facility is set to be one of the largest cashew processing plants in the country.

Its location in Techiman is no coincidence. The Bono East, Bono, Ahafo and parts of the Savannah regions account for over 70 percent of Ghana’s total cashew production. By situating the factory at the heart of the raw material base.

The company will significantly reduce transportation costs, minimize post-harvest losses, and guarantee a reliable supply of raw materials from thousands of out-grower farmers in the catchment area.

Once operational, the factory will directly employ 450 workers who will run three shifts around the clock to ensure continuous production. In total, the project is projected to create about 1,500 direct and indirect jobs across the value chain, including sourcing, aggregation, transportation, processing, packaging and export logistics.

For the Bono East Region, the socio-economic impact is expected to be transformational. Beyond the direct jobs, the factory will provide a ready and remunerative market for cashew farmers, who for years have been at the mercy of fluctuating prices and foreign buyers who purchase raw cashew for processing abroad.

Industry data shows that Ghana is one of Africa’s leading producers of raw cashew nuts, producing over 200,000 metric tonnes annually. However, less than 10 percent is processed locally, with the bulk exported in its raw state, resulting in significant loss of value, jobs and foreign exchange.

Nadkansco Aligns with Gov’t Value Addition Agenda

The establishment of Nadkansco is therefore in direct alignment with government’s industrialization agenda and the policy to add value to all primary commodities before export.

Mr. Mensah noted that GEXIM’s funding support for Nadkansco is part of a deliberate strategy to support Ghanaian owned industries with high export potential. He explained that under the Bank’s Industrialization drive, priority is given to factories that have the capacity to substitute imports, add value to local raw materials, and generate foreign exchange.

GEXIM was established to be a catalyst for Ghana’s export-led growth. This factory ticks all the boxes. It will process our own cashew here, create jobs for our people here in Techiman, and bring in much needed foreign exchange through exports.

‘’This is how we build a resilient economy,” he emphasized. He assured the management of Nadkansco of GEXIM’s continued support beyond financing, including technical advisory and facilitation of market access, to ensure the company competes favourably on the global market.

Management of Nadkansco Processing Limited, in a briefing to the Deputy Chief Executive, indicated that recruitment and training of core staff had already begun, with emphasis on hiring local youth and women.

Nadkansco to Support 2,000 Cashew Farmers Under Out-Grower Scheme

The company also outlined its out grower scheme, which will support over 2,000 smallholder cashew farmers with inputs, extension services and guaranteed off taker arrangements.

Mr. Mensah was accompanied by officials from GEXIM and was taken through various sections of the facility, including the raw material warehouse, steam boilers, cutting and peeling lines, grading and packaging sections, and the finished goods storage facility.

The project has been lauded by stakeholders in the Bono East Region as a game-changer for the local economy. Residents and traditional authorities who interacted with the GEXIM team expressed optimism that the factory will curb youth unemployment and stem rural-urban migration.

With mid-November 2026 set for commencement of operations, anticipation is high that Nadkansco Processing Limited will soon join the growing list of successful factories under GEXIM’s portfolio that are driving Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda and positioning Ghana as a competitive player in the global cashew market.

Ghana Exim Bank continues to play a pivotal role in the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative and the broader Export Development Strategy, having financed numerous agro-processing, pharmaceutical, garment and manufacturing enterprises across the country.
