Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has acknowledged receipt of a petition from the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers, representing some teachers recruited in 2024, concerning outstanding salary arrears and related grievances, while establishing a dedicated Help Desk at its headquarters to resolve individual cases requiring further attention.

Addressing the petition, GES Management said available records indicate that salaries and arrears due to teachers within this group have generally been processed but acknowledged that some individual cases may still require further verification before being fully resolved.

According to GES Management, a review of its internal records suggests that the bulk of salary and arrears payments owed to the affected 2024 recruitment cohort have already gone through the necessary processing steps.

However, Management was careful to note that this general position does not rule out the possibility of specific, individual discrepancies affecting particular teachers within the group.

“Records available to Management indicate that the salaries and arrears due to teachers within this group have been processed, however, Management recognises that some individual cases may require further verification and resolution,”

To facilitate the resolution of any remaining individual cases, GES Management announced the establishment of a dedicated Help Desk at its headquarters, specifically designed to assist affected teachers in verifying and resolving their outstanding concerns.

Teachers with unresolved issues have been directed to report in person to the Help Desk located at GES Headquarters, Room 305, bringing along relevant supporting documents to enable Management to verify and address their individual cases promptly.

Remote Assistance Available Via Hotlines

Recognising that not all affected teachers may be able to travel to Accra to visit the GES Headquarters in person, Management further disclosed that a set of dedicated hotlines have been set up to provide remote assistance.

Teachers unable to visit the Help Desk physically have been encouraged to contact the numbers 0201360786 or 0201360789 for guidance on how to submit their details and supporting documentation remotely.

This dual approach, combining an in-person Help Desk with remote hotline support, appears designed to ensure that teachers based outside Accra, or those otherwise unable to travel, are not excluded from accessing the resolution process.

In closing its statement, GES Management reaffirmed its commitment to promptly addressing all legitimate concerns raised by affected teachers, while safeguarding their overall welfare within the service.

This assurance appears aimed at reassuring the wider teaching workforce that the Service takes such grievances seriously, even as it maintains that the majority of cases within the affected cohort have already been resolved through standard payroll processes.

“Management is committed to addressing all legitimate concerns promptly and safeguarding the welfare of teachers,”

Part Of a Broader Pattern of Salary Disputes

The GES statement follows closely on the heels of a related clarification issued by the Ministry of Finance, which confirmed that all 6,300 GES staff recruited in 2024 without prior financial clearance have since been paid in full, while stating that no outstanding financial clearance requests from GES remain pending at the Ministry.

Taken together, both statements suggest a coordinated effort between the Ministry of Finance and GES to address salary-related grievances raised by newly recruited teaching staff, while directing individual complaints toward GES’s internal administrative channels for resolution.

With the Help Desk now operational and hotline numbers made publicly available, attention will likely turn to how efficiently GES processes the individual cases brought forward by affected teachers.

Whether the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers considers this response sufficient to address the broader concerns raised in their petition, including separate allegations relating to staff ID exclusions and unresolved arrears spanning up to two years for some members of the group.
