The Chief Executive Officer of Fish and Feed Limited, Dr Naga Murali, has recognised two students of Agorta DA Junior High School in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region for their outstanding performance in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), rewarding their academic achievements with cash prizes and citations.
The recognition takes place during a visit to the school by Dr Murali, representatives of the 24-Hour Economy team and the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana (COA), as part of efforts to celebrate academic excellence and explore opportunities to support education and community development.
Beyond the awards, the visit provides an opportunity for engagement with the school’s management on its development priorities. Dr Murali pledges to return to assess the school’s needs and identify practical ways the company can contribute to improving its learning environment.
“Recognising these students is an investment in their potential and a way of encouraging them to pursue excellence. We also want to understand the school’s needs and explore meaningful ways to support its development.”

Rewarding Educational Achievement
The recognition highlights the importance of celebrating students who demonstrate academic commitment and achieve strong examination results. Such initiatives can encourage learners to maintain high standards while inspiring their peers to approach their education with determination.
In Ghana, the BECE serves as an important assessment at the end of basic education and informs placement into senior high schools and other second-cycle institutions through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System.
Figures published by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) show that 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools register for the 2026 BECE, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females. The examination therefore represents a significant milestone for hundreds of thousands of young people preparing for the next stage of their education.
Against this national background, recognising high performing students at the community level provides an opportunity to celebrate individual achievement and reinforce the value of education.
The cash awards and citations presented to the two Agorta DA JHS students offer tangible recognition of their efforts. Although the award amounts and the students’ individual examination scores are not provided in the announcement, the gesture places academic accomplishment at the centre of the company’s engagement with the school.

“Students deserve encouragement when they demonstrate dedication and achieve excellent results. Recognising their efforts can motivate them to pursue further education and inspire other learners to work towards their own academic goals.”

Business Participation in Education
The visit also illustrates how businesses can contribute to communities beyond their core commercial activities. Through scholarships, educational awards, mentorship and support for school infrastructure, private companies can help address some of the challenges facing learners and educational institutions.
For Fish and Feed Limited, the engagement combines recognition of student achievement Also, an initial discussion about the school’s development needs. Dr Murali’s pledge to return for an assessment creates an opportunity to identify specific priorities before determining the nature of any future assistance.
A needs assessment can help establish whether support is required for teaching and learning materials, classroom facilities, sanitation, digital learning resources or other essential services. However, these are potential areas for assessment rather than confirmed needs identified by the school.
“Our engagement does not end with celebrating the students. We intend to return, understand the school’s priorities and identify practical opportunities through which we can contribute to its development.”
Fish and Feed Limited, Dr. Naga Murali
This approach can help ensure that future assistance responds to actual requirements rather than assumptions. Engagement with school management is particularly important because school leaders are better positioned to identify immediate challenges, prioritise interventions and explain how external support can improve learning outcomes.
The participation of representatives from the 24-Hour Economy team and the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana also creates an opportunity to connect education, industry and community development.

Such collaboration can potentially expose young people to career pathways in business, agriculture, aquaculture, science and technology. These connections are increasingly relevant as Ghana seeks to strengthen technical skills and develop a workforce capable of supporting productive industries.
Linking Aquaculture to Social Impact
Fish and Feed Limited operates within Ghana’s broader aquaculture and fisheries value chain, where production, feed supply, processing and distribution contribute to food production and economic activity.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations identifies aquaculture as an important contributor to food security, livelihoods and economic development. In Ghana, the sector also supports employment and the domestic supply of fish, making investment in its development relevant to wider economic priorities.
Data from Ghana’s fisheries sector indicate that estimated aquaculture production reaches approximately 116,108 metric tonnes in 2023, with Nile tilapia accounting for about 63.65 per cent of output. The figures demonstrate the importance of aquaculture within domestic fish production.
Against this backdrop, companies operating in the sector have opportunities to combine commercial activities with initiatives that support education, skills development and the communities in which they operate.
Moreover, supporting young people and strengthening their schools are meaningful ways to contribute to community development. By encouraging academic excellence and identifying practical needs, businesses can help create opportunities for the next generation.
The recognition of the two Agorta DA JHS students therefore extends beyond an award presentation. It opens a channel for dialogue between the company and the school about possible future support.
For the proposed engagement to produce lasting benefits, the next stage will depend on the school’s needs assessment, the identification of feasible interventions and the implementation of any agreed support.
The initiative highlights the potential for businesses to recognise achievement while exploring practical contributions to education. By combining encouragement for outstanding students with a commitment to assess school needs, Fish and Feed Limited places young people and community development at the centre of its engagement.
The broader objective is to ensure that academic success receives recognition and that opportunities for meaningful support are explored, helping create an environment in which learners can continue to develop their abilities and prepare for future responsibilities.
