Fidelity Bank Ghana has made a major breakthrough in the country’s banking industry after becoming the only bank in Ghana to achieve 2X Certified Advanced status, securing an exclusive global distinction for its efforts to advance gender-smart finance and women’s economic empowerment.
The achievement places the Bank among financial institutions recognised for embedding gender considerations into their business operations, leadership structures, employment practices, financial products and investment portfolios.
Awarded by 2X Global, an international industry organisation promoting gender-smart investing, the certification represents a significant endorsement of Fidelity Bank’s growing efforts to make financial services more responsive to the needs of women and girls.
At a time when access to finance remains a major challenge for many women-owned businesses, the recognition highlights how deliberate banking strategies can help close financial inclusion gaps and create opportunities for women to participate more actively in economic growth.
Fidelity Bank Secures Exclusive Position in Ghana
Fidelity Bank’s achievement follows its participation in the 2025–2026 pilot of the new 2X Certification methodology for financial institutions, led by 2X Global.
The pilot brought together different financial institution business models to assess the effectiveness of the certification framework. It also incorporated practical insights and feedback from participating institutions to strengthen the methodology ahead of its official launch.
The 2X Certification framework evaluates how financial institutions demonstrate their commitment to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment through measurable practices across their businesses.
Fidelity Bank’s successful assessment makes it the only bank in Ghana to attain the Advanced distinction, setting it apart in an increasingly competitive financial services industry where sustainability, responsible banking and social impact are becoming important measures of institutional performance.
The recognition also reflects a growing shift in the banking sector towards financial solutions that address the different needs of customers rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
Women-Focused Products Drive Major Achievement
One of the strongest areas of Fidelity Bank’s performance was its Products and Services offering, which met the certification’s Best-in-Class requirement.
This distinction recognises the Bank’s efforts to incorporate gender considerations into product development, delivery, customer service and marketing, while developing financial solutions that respond to the specific needs of women and girls.
Among the initiatives supporting this achievement are the establishment of Women’s Desks to provide specialised support to women customers, alongside the Fidelity Young Entrepreneurs Initiative, Edwapa Account, Fidelity Bright Kids Account and Education Support Plan.
The Bank has also invested in digital banking solutions tailored to women’s financial needs and preferences.
These initiatives are particularly significant because financial inclusion goes beyond opening bank accounts. Women entrepreneurs require access to appropriate credit facilities, savings products, financial education and banking services that recognise the realities of running businesses and managing household responsibilities.
By expanding its range of targeted financial products, Fidelity Bank is positioning itself to support women at different stages of their economic journeys, from young savers and aspiring entrepreneurs to established business owners.

Strategic Partnerships Strengthen Gender Inclusion
Beyond its customer-facing products, Fidelity Bank has pursued institutional reforms to make gender inclusion an integral part of its operations.
The Bank engaged Value for Women, with support from AfricInvest and BIO Invest, to provide targeted technical assistance aimed at strengthening gender inclusion across its business.
The engagement involved a gender diagnostic to identify existing challenges and opportunities, a workshop to review the findings and explore possible interventions, and the development of a tailored Gender Action Plan to guide the implementation of priority initiatives.
Its partnership with Accion International also supported an MSME Needs Assessment conducted with Ipsos, the development of a Women’s Intentionality Roadmap in 2024, the creation of a Gender Policy and the recruitment of a Gender Specialist.
These interventions have helped the Bank develop a deeper understanding of the financial challenges facing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those owned or led by women.
More importantly, they demonstrate an effort to move gender inclusion beyond corporate commitments and embed it into everyday banking decisions, institutional policies and product development.
Fidelity Bank Pledges to Raise the Bar
Commenting on the achievement, Atta Yeboah Gyan, Deputy Managing Director, Operations & Support Functions, at Fidelity Bank Ghana, described the certification as an important milestone in the Bank’s journey towards building a more inclusive financial institution.
“Achieving 2X Certified Advanced status is an important milestone for Fidelity Bank and a strong endorsement of the deliberate steps we are taking to embed gender inclusion across our business. We believe that empowering women and expanding economic opportunities for girls and women are not just social priorities; they are essential to building stronger businesses, communities and economies.
“Being the only bank in Ghana to attain this distinction is a proud moment for us. It also reinforces our responsibility to keep raising the bar by developing relevant financial solutions, creating opportunities for women-owned and women-led businesses, and fostering an inclusive workplace. We remain committed to ensuring that girls, women and their businesses have greater opportunities to participate in and contribute to economic growth.”

His remarks underscore the Bank’s intention to sustain its gender inclusion efforts rather than treat the certification as a one-off corporate achievement.
A New Benchmark for Gender-Smart Banking
Fidelity Bank’s recognition comes at a time when financial institutions are facing increasing expectations to demonstrate how their operations contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic development.
In Ghana, improving access to finance for women-owned businesses remains important to strengthening entrepreneurship, expanding employment opportunities and unlocking the productive potential of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Bank’s 2X Certified Advanced status therefore carries significance beyond its position within the banking industry. It highlights the role financial institutions can play in addressing structural barriers that limit women’s participation in economic activities.
The certification also reinforces Fidelity Bank’s broader commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.
While the distinction marks a major milestone, the challenge ahead will be sustaining the progress through measurable outcomes, deeper financial inclusion and continued support for women-owned and women-led businesses.
With its exclusive position as Ghana’s only bank to achieve the 2X Certified Advanced distinction, Fidelity Bank has set a new benchmark for gender-smart finance in the country’s banking industry.
